I was wondering if anyone has used the side lights/parking lights and turned them into the turn signals and using the space where the turn signals are for fog lights?? Is this a good idea or will they not be as visable as out in front?

 

Yes I have seen a few people do it, but our marker lights are not very bright during the day, especially when you have your headlights on. I wouldnt use the side marker as the blinker alone. Tieing them in together would be cool though ( write up in the 95.5 section).

 

when i removed my fact bumper, i relocated my turn signals to my marker lights. i added a seperate bulb in the lens..both marker lights and turn signals in same lense..

 

well i was thinking of just tying the wires together so they would be parking lights then when i hit the switch they blink?

it will, but its kinda hard to wire. i dont know why i havent thought of just having a second bulb in there? dee dee dee. i plan on the same for my 2wd since i have a 91 4runner bumper thats going on. its got shaved markers, dechromed the top, and welded the 3 upper panels and the valance all together. cut out the factory grille bars. going to go some mesh inserts to match the grill i plan to make. which will be a 92-95 2wd with the center cut out and a 3 hole hardbody/pathy center grafted in. all painted black like the truck.

 

I always thought it would be cool to just remove thr running lights wiring and throw the turn signal wiring in there with an amber bulb..

 

thats an easy way. but no corner lights. so at night people think you're stupid and drive around with burned out bulbs because yours dont glow like the other yotas. haha.

My front markers are now 3157 dual circuit lights- I tapped into the running lights (side markers) to run the 'low' circuit, and used the original blinker signal on the high side.

On most Toyota trucks the turn signal and parking light are separate lights with separate lenses. One bulb drives the turn signal and another bulb handles the parking light.

With some custom and aftermarket bumpers on Toyota trucks it would be nice to not have to mount the extra set of lights for turn signals. Some after market bumpers don't provide a good turn signal solution. My TJM front bumper has front turn signal lights built in, but the lenses are designed for use in Australia and are not DOT approved for use in the United States. After having a traffic cop point out the missing approval I decided it was time to modify my existing parking lights into a combination parking light and turn signal.

After considering several options I decided to use a standard 1157 light bulb. This is the same bulb found in the rear of most cars and trucks for the last 40 years so it's a common one. A local Carquest auto parts store had a number of different 1157 light sockets on the shelf to choose from. I picked a set of sockets that had sevral spring prongs around the outside.

nbsp; I removed my stock parking lights and cut off the light sockets, leaving just a bare pair of wires going to each light. Using a voltmeter I found the white wires were ground and the green wires were power for the parking lights. I also cut off the wires going to the turn signals. Again there were two wires one white and one green.

Next I used a drill to open up the hole the parking light fits into. I also used a knife to make the opening an oval shape. The oval shape allows the new socket to fit all the way in and snap into position. The little prongs of the socket keep it from falling out.

The 1157 bulb has two filaments inside, a small one and a larger one. The small 7 watt filament is for the parking light and is dimmer then the larger 25 watt turn signal filament. The bulb uses a common ground for both filaments. The bulb sockets I purchased have a spade connector for use as a ground. This is very helpful in this application because the Toyota light housing is all plastic and does not provide the necessary ground.

I connected the parking light green wire to the small filament and the green wire from the turn signal up to the large filament. I then connected the parking white wire to the spade connector on the light housing for a ground. Now my parking lights serve double duty as both parking and turn signal lights.

my blinkers are in my marker lights. and i run fogs as running lights.

 

IMO, I like the front turn signals and would do whatever it takes to not get rid of them. Usually, everyone just relocates the signal bulbs to the parking light. Well, I decided that I'll have both bulbs in both locations. Add a signal to the parking light housing and a parking light to the bumper signal housing. Then all you have to do is tap your new lights into the appropriate existing wires. I like it.
