Price for clutch job
Hey guys I was calling around getting quotes for replacing the clutch in my 94 22re and most were between 400 and 500 labor included does this sounds right or are these prices a little high I've never had to get a clutch replaced before but these seem pricey to me

It's not hard, just very time consuming. It's a good solid day's worth of work in your garage, maybe a little less with airtools and a lift. As above, figure $200 for the parts, you're looking at $200 - $300 for labor. Figure 1/2 day if they bust ass, and you're getting a shop rate of ~$50/hr which is a STEAL.

I don't how I managed to get the deal that I got when I had my clutch changed on my truck 6 years ago. I paid $269 to have the clutch replaced. It was the same price to have an OEM style clutch as to have my Centerforce Dual Friction installed. It was at Clutch Doctors in Everett. Weird thing was that they were going to charge $400+ to change the clutch out on my FWD Nissan car...

it's inline if they do it with quality parts, pretty much $300-400 labor as i know of. remember, most of the cars and trucks would be gone before the second clutch is gone. have it done right and forget it.
I paid $600 total for my 3.slow couple months ago, include $200 for the marlin clutch disk and p.p., grade8.8 bolts, $40 OEM rear mean seal, $40 OEM fuel filter. $320 for labor and re-surfacing the flywheel. the rear main seal and fuel filter were not part of the quote the mechanic gave me earlier, but because they were not much of extra work while the tranny is out, so he didn't charge me labor for these 2.
my advise is if you don't know how to do it, don't do it.
if you don't know someone who "really know" how and willing to do it with you, don't do it.
first, clutch is something you don't want to mess with, a simple broken bolt in the bellhousing can screw the whole truck up big time. secondly, i bet you would hate the voice of "did i do it right???" before you heading out to the mountains or dessert or whatever.
oh, one last thing, one can really get hurt doing the clutch.

i did mine myself with help of friend. i never done one before. i prolly would not have been able to do it with out his help or it would have taken me 12hrs not the 6 it did take us. and we did bust off a bolt in the bellhousing and had to drill it out! its not hard, straight forward but like someone said, i'm never doing it myself again. $500 is very reasonable.
