I'm sure some or all of this has been discussed before but I did not find what i was looking for in a search. I would really like to know what alldata or something of the like says for a time to do head gaskets on a 93 pickup with a 3.0, 5spd, 4x4. Also if anyone has done it how long did it take and what is your skill level. My friend has a truck that engine was rebuilt and only lasted a couple of months before the heads started leaking so he already has new timing belt, water pump etc. I understand OEM is the way to gaskets? does anybody Know of anything that is as good or better. he tried to save a few bucks with the engine rebuild by haveing someone else do the assembley therefore the gaskets are not waranty. Now he just wants this truck right so he is giong to have me do it and not skimp on the parts. Any info, espeacialy the alldata info and anything to that is not covered in the FSM or to do different would be greatly appreciated.

Trust me when the head gasket goes it cheaper in the long run to do a motor swap like upgrade to a 3.4 cause alot of guys i know are on there 3rd headgasket for the 3.0v6

That depends directly on your abilities and available tools. Also, depends on what, if anything, you intend to do besides a direct HG replacement, if you learn from all our mistakes and order EVERYTHING you need the first time (nobody does!), and if you don't make any boneheaded mistakes/omissions which require you to tear everything apart again (it happens). Some have said they can do a HG replacement in 4-6 hours, others have taken a couple of months (mine did, because it turned into rebuilding the engine once I got in there, plus lots of other stuff on the rest of the truck). if you're looking for a shop/manual time, I think it's on the order of 11 hours for just the HG. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that...
