Looking to get some new winter tires for my wife's '04 Hyundai Accent. Any suggestions on a good set of winter tires for a reasonable price?

I have never bought car tires before, as this car still has it's original and before she got it I drove her everywhere.

 

I have wet dreams about the Bridgestone Blizzak tires.

Man, when I look at cars winter tires it almost makes me laugh after owning a truck.

 

Any experiences with the Hankook Winter iPike W409?

 

I had a set of Nokian Hakka RSi on my Golf TDi. I really liked them. Mary Beth has a set on her Impreza and it will go anywhere. They were rated near the top (only Green Diamond was better, I think) for non studded tires. Very good rating on ice (althought nothing is really "good" on ice except studs).

I'm in Syracuse. We've had about 30 inches already this year. We get a couple inches of lake effect almost daily. The Hakkas were very good in hard pack snow and just blasting throught fluff.

 

I've been using Bridgestone Bizzaks for about 15 years, and have nothing but great things to say about them! (and I was VERY sceptical about my first set, being studless snow tires.)

There are some others that I have read good reviews about, but I only have experience with the Blizzaks, and I have no qualms about recommending them!

 

Goodyear Ultragrip Ice tires, no studs but almost as good.

 

I have Blizzak WS-50's. Excellent snow/ice tire, but if you like hugging corners when the pavement is dry they show their one and only weakness, they feel sloppy in corners.

Anyways I never had full on snow tires, I always bought THE best all seasons ultra high performance tires. I had a set of continentals on my camry last time and BOY they gripped like all hell in rain, snow, sleet anything imaginable.

Blizzaks if you want true snow tires.

blizzaks are always good too.

Snow tires wear REALLY fast so make sure to take them off ASAP.

 

I getcha... Just didnt think it snowed there but i forget some areas have elevation..

 

Hmm, well after readin all this, I don't think snow tires is what I want. I would like year round tires. Thank you for the input, all of you. I don't know much about car tires.

So, at my local discount tire the best tire I can find there is a Michelin Destiny. Has anyone used them before?

I have Michelin LTX M/S and they have done very well for me so far in the snow in Salt Lake City.

 

I'm runnng Hakapolita 4s on a corrolla.. wicked...

 

In my previous car (prior to it being stolen) I ran the Toyo Garits - AMAZING tire in the snow and on ice. I ran then HARD for 5 winters (5-6 months/yr) and they still had about 80% tread left

They even managed to pull me out of a few drifts that were over my hood. My car was slammed down with only 2" of clearance on the front

 

Michelean Ice-X is the BEST! i had them on my 98' Camry and i wouldn't use anything else

have them on a poo-poo cavalier, but they are great in snow and ice. pretty much a 4-season tire

 

Personally, I'm a fan of the Michelin X-Ice X12 tires...they've never let me down during inclement weather. Actually has decent traction in icy areas as well...Unless you go with studs on your tires - which I'm not a fan of.

SO these would be perfect for your car...if it was a truck, my recommendation may be different

 

I had an 89 Jetta. I bought a set of steel wheels and set of Bridgestone Blizzaks.

AMAZING! You can't describe the difference between a good set of street or M/S tires and Blizzaks.......no comparison. Especially for braking on ice.
