There is no difference in the length of the bed between 4WD and 2WD. Only length difference you find is between short bed or Long bed. I had used a Canopy off a Ford Ranger first on my old '84 and than on my '97 Tacoma..if you find a 'deal' on craigslist just measure your bed to make sure it will fit dimension wise. Any seller should allow you to at least place the canopy on your bed to do a test fit.

2wd 0r 4wd is the same. xtracab is not the same as standard cab shortbed.

the bed is the same size but the window angle is not the same.

a standard cab shell would fit, but there would be a V shaped gap between the window of the truck and the front of the camper.

I bought one made for a 94 to put on my 93... You couldn't do this the other way around. 93 and below doesn't have the third brake light, but yours does. so make sure the gap for the brake light is there. mine just has a gap where the brake light should be...

I would'nt worry about the 3rd brake light thing most caps you get these days will come with it, and even so it is not a "required" thing to be visible because trucks can carry loads that obscure it anyways... it just has to be there and functional for the safety check...
A.R.E. makes several caps that are "custom fit" for the truck in both fibreglass and Aluminium [contracter cap series]...
also any cap for the early tacomas 95.5-about 98? should fit as these trucks were almost identical from the cab back to the 89-94 trucks.

I just meant that if you get an older, used cap... like mine... 200 bucks off craigslist, make sure that it has the gap in the fiberglass for the brake light on the truck.
