Found one for sale, can buy for $5200. It's the Mellinium silver, nice running boards, 5 spoke sport wheels, looks like a Limited on the outside. 2WD, auto, no sunroof, cloth interior, 215K which has to be all highway miles given it's only 7 years old. (30K miles/year)

He said he checked compression and all cylinders were 183-185/cylinder. So what do you think? Would be for my girlfriend to get around in town, work etc. She want's an SUV.

for just driving around town, thats a great rig. $5200 is a good price for a 4x2, even without all the options. I would have it checked out by a mechanic, then go for it!

And you could always convert to 4x4 later lol.

 

Thats a good price i would say if it all checks out. I paid alot more than that for my 97

 

Make sure he did all of the required maintainance like timing belts, drive belts, hoses and all fluids.

 

Thanks for all the replys. Honestly, we don't get much snow in Kentucky, she'll never use the 4WD. I forgot to mention it does have the locking rear diff though. Weird they'd include that in a 2WD model.

Oh, how often does the timing belt need replacing? Is it a non-interference engine?

Kind of odd that they would bne checking engine compression. Thats not something you do as a part of any routine maintenence, only when theres an issue with engine performance.

that's weird that it has th difflock, but it doesn't have any of the other options, but hey that just makes it a better deal!



You forgot to mention if it was a 4 cyl or a V6,

get it checked out and buy it! That is less than I spent on my truck

 

Last year for the 4cy in 4Runners was 2000

Also, now that I think about it, the last year for the elocker was 2000. So the guy either has no clue what the RR diff lock is, or it doesnt really have one. And as far as I know, the elocker was not an option on 2wd. Think about it....the elocker only engages if your in 4low, and under 5mph...how you gonna shift into 4lo with a 2wd?

Something smells fishy...........

 

So you must know which 4Runner I'm talking about? That would be great if you didn't mind looking at it for me. It's about an hour and a half drive from Lexington, he's 5 miles from Kings Island I think.

Definately interesting about the rear locker. He said it had a button to lock it, but maybe he's mistaken? He's definitely knowledgable about cars, has a Corvette and Cyclone too. Sounds like an educated person on the phone as well. Anyways, if you had the time to take a look that would be fantastic. I'll pm you my phone number and we can go from there. Thanks!

 

lol..yea. Its funny, right before I surfed over to Yotatech, I was looking at that ad. I saw your post and thought, wow, that sounds just like the ad I looked at, then realized your close by, and put 2 and 2 together!

If it is a 2001 there is no locking rear diff, not an option on years above 2000.. They may be referring to the locking of the centre diff, but that would not be on there if it was 2WD since there is nothing to lock up to in the front..doesnt sound right at all...

 

Sorry, just emailed the owner and he said the button was for Traction control, not a locking rear diff.

 

I know Tacos and 4runners are different but my 2003 PreRunner (2wd) came with the rear e-locker.

 

Thats with the TRD package. 4Runner don't have a TRD package.
