good question, as i thought of it before, but alas just bought a 4x w/A.C. since its a huge job.

they do make aftermarket A/C kits that fit under the dash. a self contained unit.

for you to do it right would take alot of work, and i.m.o. the freon systems would be worth it. (mine blows at 27degrees at the vents, and yes, i can see my breath in July.

im sure retro fitting the newer dash would be worth photographing and posting your work (especially if it turns out to be easy) would be fallowed by many.

or do you want to stealth it in your existing dash (adding the toggle button, vent hookins etc.)

i can take pics of my stock setup today (*im removing the dash this weekend) if you want, i will post em.

sure sounds good. i rolled my truck, and totally replaced the cab, by myself with nothing but hand tools and a tag along. so if i can do that in 3 weeks, i figure the a/c will be nothing. im wondering if i would have to swap harnesses and everything.

Retrofitting A/C is pretty straightforward. It was a dealer installed option, so the wiring harness is already in place. The evaporator, expansion valve, and electrical stuff are all contained in the ducting that swaps out the dummy duct under the dash. The holes in the firewall for the hoses have rubber plugs.

This is true with '89-'95 PU's. The '88 model may have some minor differences.

I put factory air in my 85 and it was cake. The plugs are already for you to use under the dash and you only have to remove the glove box and peel the carpet back. You will need to drill 3 holes with a hole saw but even those are marked at the factory with dimples. See partial write up in the Wiki

Retrofitting out a new model truck would be a PITA just find the same generation truck
