I'm talking about rewiring the lights so the corner lights act as parking lights (like stock) but also as the turn signals. I know I've read some talk about doing this, but has anyone actually done it? When my TJM gets here, I was thinking about using the light openings built into it for fog lights, but I'd have to send the turn signal to the corner lamps.

It doesn't seem like this would be a terribly difficult mod... just find a wiring diagram from a vehicle that has integrated parking/signal lights and wire my rig the same way. Would it really be that easy?

That mod is on my list as well. The easy way is supposedly to cut the parking lamp ground wire (white) and run the cut end from the bulb to the green wire on the turn signal bulb using a vampire tap. Thats it. the parking lamp should then blink alternatly with the turn signal. I cant confirm this works yet though.

i think people tried that way but either blew the bulbs or blew the fuses as soon as the turn signal lamp came on. something about the voltage or current or something. you have to use a dual filament bulb to get this work. and the best way has been replacing the bulb assembly as discussed in those links.

currently for the front:
headlights on = headlights, corner lights
parking lights = corner lights only
turn signal = bumper lights only

idealy for the front:
headlights on = all 6 front lights are on (2 x corner, 2 x bumper, 2 x headlight)
parking lights = corner lights on, bumper lights on
turn signal = corner light + bumper lights flash

really really idealy:
headlights on = all 6 lights
parking lights = corner and bumper lights
turn signals = bumper lights and corner lights flashing one after another, ex: bumper then corner bumper then corner
daytime: bumper lights

 

Get an Allen-Bradley computerized automation controller and a small 12v I/O block. Wire all the turn signal and park light supply wires into the inputs, and connect all the lights to the outputs. Set up the logic programming anyway you like, burn an eprom chip and Bob's your Uncle. Should be doable for under $3000. Plus the laptop for programming.

 

Can be done but how much do you really want to rewire.
For you 1st option
1. Pick up 4 dual element bulb holders and corrisponding bulbs. (alot of American cars use these for parking and brake light setups).
2. Run a 2 cond cable (16 AWG) from corner lamp to bumper lamp on each side.
3.Attach the turn signal wire and one of the conductors in the cable to the high output post on the bumper lamp holder. Attach the wire in the cable that you used to the high output post on the corner holder.
4.Attach the corner wire and the other conductor in the cable to the low output post of the corner holder. Attach the wire in the cable you used to the low output post on the bumper lamp holder.
5. Attach the ground wire to each holder (jumper if it has multiple ground attachments for each output).

This will have both corner and bumper lamps on, and when signaling they will both flash bright.

To have them flash alternatly you need to come up with a nice relay circuit or use a PLC like Flamed said.

on my 89 dodge ramcharger, there is a light under the headlight, and one on the side of the fender down lower. neither wrap around the body like yota corners. the front glows as a running/marker light. and blinks brighter (1157) for turn signal. the side glows as a running/marker light, and blinks off for turn signal (194). it goes off when the other unit gets brighter. i havent figured out how that is done. im assuming its a switched ground and the other is a switched hot or something. i dont know. that would be cool to have it blink on and off on the corners but an 1157 is easier. plus, its brighter than a 194 for marker. especially with clears.

 

2 years later... wonder if the OP ever got it figured out? lol, I just did this too, good instructions are on here somewhere, and real easy to figure out for anyone that has no clue

bump of an old thread-this seems to be a common concern for those of us with aftermarket front bumpers.
