Yeah, my gauge works once every six months if I'm lucky...and I don't like that. Can anyone tell me where the sending unit is located so I can check it out, I'm not really familiar with these Toyota motors yet.

Thanks

There's a cluster of sensors on the back of the manifold behind and under the plenum. The sending unit will be on the right side of the coolant bypass hose in the middle. It's a single wire...can't miss it.

Find the single wire, take it off, and ground it with the key on. If the gauge goes up all the way, it works, and your sending unit may be bad....if the gauge does not move then the gauge is bad. I bought a cluster panel off of CL and replaced the oil and temp side of the panel...it worked out great. Those water temp gauges have a history of going bad. good luck

you always could just get an aftermarket gauge from autozone. they are fairly cheap and they accually tell you how hot it is, not just a guess between the lines. it seems like this is a pretty common problem, and the biggest problem is sometimes its hard to notice that its not working, when the needle still "moves" just not with any relationship with your temp

it prob wont move much if you dont have a thermostat... do you have one installed? luckily i havent had any problems with mine. the last time the engine compartment started steaming, the gauge needle was in the red.

I guess I should clarify, just for the record. Mine doesn't move at all, and here and there it will, and read normally. I'm gonna fix mine up here shortly...maybe tomorrow. I did a quick "jiggle" test, but didn't see any result. So, I'm gonna bust out my meter tomorrow and fix it....unless it's the cluster...then I have to get one of those somewhere.

Just put on my pro comp bumper light bar though....oooohhh ahhhhhhh..nice.
