Yep, it's a Jeep thing alright...

So, my truck is finally up and running after I almost drowned it. My friend and I decide to do some light four-wheeling today after church. I'm in my '91 pickup, he's in his brother's 95 YJ Jeep (3 inch lift and 33's, but no lockers). After about a few minutes of wheeling, we decided that it was time to leave. So we climb this small sandy hill, with about a 25 degree incline, on the way out. I climb out just fine with my truck in 4-lo. He tries it, but in 2 wheel-drive only. Well, he starts bogging, then suddenly my friend in my truck says, "Hey, I think something just flew out from under his Jeep." I look, and his Jeep is rolling down the hill, backwards, with the rear driveshaft "flapping" around! They had just bought the Jeep about 2 weeks ago as is. We couldn't believe it! We were like, are you freakin' serious??? We thought Jeeps were supposed to be "hardcore!" Even nothing has broken on my old Toyota the whole year I've had it, and sometimes I wheel it pretty hard, for an all-stock truck! Anyway, the driveshaft broke where the splined ends go into the transfer case. See for yourself:

Well, not brand new, but a '95 YJ Jeep Wrangler. And it didn't fly off, it broke off.

Haha, my buddy used to have a dana 28 front end on his ranger and he would break front axle shafts all the time. I bet he spent like a grand on U-joints and axles from the junkyard before he did his swap. fords are my passion on the side

I don't think that's just a heep thing - The pinion in my '84 snapped just letting the clutch out normally while backing out of a pizza joint. strange things can break for seemingly no reason in old trucks

No, the reason for the SYE is two fold:
- To allow for increased driveline angles via a double cardon joint
- To be able to use a longer driveshaft.
