Disconnected the swaybar to get my axles etc. swapped out and the balljoint spacers installed. Not sure if I can be bothered hooking it all back up, or just remove it altogether.

I will be running some trails that are a 50+ highway mile drive away from home. So - are there many folks running with the Front Swaybar removed, or is that really not recommended for on highway use?

Will maybe think about some quick disconnects if she stays on there.

I had mine off for a couple weeks and it seemed to me that highway performance wasn't affected so much as backroads and such. No sway-bars + 5" lift = the definition of body roll. Try it out and see how it feels and fits your driving habits, and don't go changing lanes too fast on the highway I almost learned that one the hard way

 

take it off and be done with it. you dont need it. i have not noticed a difference in the way it handles since i have taken mine off.

I'd keep it and go with disconnects, my mount broke and I drove my '93 extra-cab pickup without it for a couple weeks, there was a big difference, I didn't care for how much body roll I had, I replaced the mounts and if I had known about the availability of disconnects for my truck I definitely would have gone that route.

Disconnects aren't expensive and then you get the best of both worlds, safer on-road driving and more flex off-road!

 

With my truck having 7 inches of lift and 36s....plus being driven on the road at 70+ for upto 3 hours at a time, im looking for all the stability I can get. Sure it wont affect on "typical" driving..but WHAT if you ahve to swerve at a higher speed? Even at a lower speed. A stock truck doesnt perform great in that situation...now your taking a lifted truck WITHOUT the swaybar setup. You do the Math. Im keeping mine ;-)

 

me to. i have a spool in the rear and an 8in lift with 37's so it has terrible body roll and my swaybars help tons.

 

just get or MAKE quick discos. Not hard to make at all..google that ;-) Jeepers do it all day long. How often do yuo wheel your truck? how often do you drive it on the street? If it 50/50%...keep them on! It doesnt take my time to disco the swaybar. If its a trail rig, yea throw them out haha. I dont run a REAR swaybar, but the fronts staying.

i have an 88 4runner 3inch body lift w/ 33 and i pulled off my sway bar and there was no difference on road and it gave me more flex

 

i ran without front OR rear swaybars when i was IFS... you'll be fine.

 

Only a small lift - BJ Spacers & 2" Downey Leaf Springs, possibly some shackles depending on how level she is once the leaf springs are on. I think I'll give it a try with it off. She's gonna be 95% trail rig - 5% get me to work if the Xterra is in the shop, or I feel like more fresh air.

Work however is 27 miles away and alot of the trails I am likely to run are a good 50+ miles away.

I think I'll research putting together my own quick disconnects. Sounds like it shouldn't be to difficult to do if a Jeeper can figure it out!

 

My truck is my daily driver, with a 1&1/2" lift and 32's. I've removed my sway bar, and have had no negative effects on-road. And now my truck is also lighter.

 

I find it extremely hard to believe any of the guys saying they removed their swaybar and they do not feel a difference driving on the street.

Do you guys only take turns at 15mph or what?

I bet if you had video of any of your trucks taking the same turn, at the same speed, with and without the swaybar you'd see a significant difference in the bodyroll of your trucks.

I guess the laws of physics only work on Toyota trucks in PA!

Also, I did check, in PA, Inspection Code 175.80 states that any vehicle with a missing or unhooked swaybar fails inspection.
I bet most states have very similar inspection laws.

 

See, you won't notice the sway bar under normal driving conditions. It's when you have to avoid say hitting something that you will miss it if it is not there. Body lean increases the chances of a roll over.

I am running the discos from 4crawler.com and like them a lot. I would retain the sway bar and use those.

The front bar didnt increase body roll THAT much. disconnecting the rear caused greater body roll. but i drove my truck as hard as i could but you gotta remember you wont be able to keep up with a BMW in the corners.


will disconnecting the swaybar increase body roll? yes. is it that noticeable under normal driving conditions? no. in a Panic swerve will in increase you chance of roll over? yes. BUT you shouldnt be doing panic swerves in a 4runner ANYWAYS!


i think discos are a waste of money for the front. pull it off, if you dont like it, put it back on and then buy discos.

 

Yeah I agree with a few other people, take it off and see how it feels. I'm used to driving a lowered car so taking curves on the highway can get a little scary (not to bad up to 65, but over that and it gets scary). Plus if you ever get cut off, without them you'd have the choice of slamming into the back of a car or swerving and flopping on your side.

 

I would get the discos from 4Crawler.Com if you are gonna be driving some highway miles, better to be safe than sorry.

 

loose the sway bar its not needed I took mine of and forgot I didnt have it
