First of all my truck is a 1987 4x4 X-tra cab w/206,000 miles and the 22RE motor. Took off my exhaust manifold because it had a crack in it on the downpipe. Took it to work and had my buddy weld it up for me. Also found 2 other cracks in it. Got it all welded up and decided to replace the rest of the exhaust while I had everything off. I know some of you guys are not gonna like this but I took off the cat convertor and went from the downpipe out to a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler and straight pipe the rest of the way out with a turn down. The muffler is a 2" in/out with 2" pipe all the way. The down pipe is 2" so thats why I decided on 2" for everything. This exhaust sounds great and is not loud at all and made a noticeable difference in power. No more bogging down going up hills on the highway. Did not lose any low end and gained a little top end. I have right around $60.00 in the whole system. Some of you guys may have noticed the red RTV around the joints. I use this because of not welding the joints and using clamps this seals it all up. i guess it'd be less resistance w/ a straight pipe out the back but looks like you sacrifice a some clearance. especially around the rear axle. watch out for hitting speed bumps hard.

Good idea....Go buy some elbows and get that thing routed a little differently. I bet it sounds pretty good!

The hangers I used keep it in place really well. The system is pretty solid and doesnt move and hit anything at all, even over bumps and stuff. Already tried it out. I will post some bigger pics on photobucket. Didnt even think about that.

 

bumps are nothing wait till you hit the trails then you will know if its good

 

mine was 20 i hacked the original at the muffler put on a cherry bomb and called it good, kinda gets annoying sometimes tho

 

I dont really do much off roading with my truck but the clearance on the exhaust seems to be ok all around!!!

Yeah I went ahead and deleted my own post. Its just the pic, its about 2" from the drive shaft. The rust looks bad but its only on the surface and not rusted through. Frame is in good shape. Gonna treat it with POR this next summer so it doesnt get bad.

 

wear gloves with por-15. it sticks very well to your skin.

Looks good but you're going to eventually hit the axle on the pipe back there...

And you should think about a $5 chrome tip at the end too.

what kind of rtv did you use?

 

I used Permatex High-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker # 26B. Hope that helps you out.

 

When you flex the drivers back tire up its gonna hit the exhuast.
