My dad changed the oil in my truck last night and after i got in the truck and was heading back to school the check engine light came on about 10-15 seconds after i had pulled out of the drive way. it comes on about the same time every time i drive it around the block. what could be causing the check engine light to come on??? i drive a 1988 4runner with 22-re, 5-sp. .

 

The methodical way to resolve a check engine light is to study the FSM on this site and follow the procedure to read the engine code(s). These codes will tell you what caused the check engine light to illuminate.

A potential shortcut would be to examine the vaccum lines for one dislodged during the oil change. Things are pretty cramped in the engine compartment and it is easy to accidently pull a hose loose.

To clear the check engine light, pull the EFI fuse for 30 seconds.
