calibrating my speedy meter

Spedometer Calibration
Ask your dealer parts guy to look it up for you or follow the cable back to the tranny and see if it has the housing for the gear , if that is the case then you need to research how they identify them (by teeth in gear or by color) , either way you will have to remove the gear and see what you have and go from there - up or down (less teeth make speedo faster / more teeth slow speedo down) .
Then test it on the road side by side with someone who has stock vehicle and presto .
I just looked at my manual 5Spd and it looks the same as all the rest , undo one bolt where cable feeds transmission (gear oil leakage at this point unless you put the rear wheels on ramps) and the little drive gear housing will slide out , the little gear will just slide out the rear of the housing if the same as GM stuff .
Do some research and find out what they offer , find out what you have already then buy (prolly have to get more than one , I used to just but whole set but I have no idea how many they make for theirs) the one or a couple .
If memory serves me right each different gear whether going up or down was only about 1 1/2 - 2 miles per hour on the speedo .
They also have little miniature gear reduction boxes for this too so you can screw it on Tranny and then screw speedo cable to it and its done ( had to use one of them and the highest gear GM made for the tranny when I had 411's in my truck) .
You decide hehe .
Find out how far off your speedo is then get the gears (after you find out what gear you have first)
Just remember each gear you go up or down 1 1/2 - 2 miles per hour on the speedo .
I welcome correction from anyone as I am a Old School GM guy (please don't ban me (cowering) )
