hard start when cold, and smell of fuel

well im starting to relize that for some reason after these trucks are let to sit for months they run after one problem after another or atleast just mine for right now. my 94 4runner is hard to start when its cold, takes about 3-4 cranks to start then idles rough then goes to normal, but then i smell fuel pretty strong when i go to turn the car off, can the csi have anything to do with this or what should i look for, the truck doesnt leak anything.

i cant remember if it did this before or after either but i JUST had the timing and water pump done, and i know the timing was set right, cams straight up and crank mark set blah blah but so i doubt that was done right but who knows maybe theres something that was missed? but when the truck does start and warm up it runs great. help!

Well, having set for months your probably going to have some gunky fuel passages. Run some cleaner through the fuel and intake.....Seafoam or equivalent.

Other than that, coolant has a way of getting funky and rusting things. You may have some coolant sensors a tad fouled up. Cleaning them off may help....the CSI time switch, the coolant temp sensor, etc.

I'd start there and see where that gets you.

Check the idle air control valve in the throttle body.

Shoot....for that matter, clean the throttle body. Be careful, though. Don't get any solvent on the TPS.
