Hi everyone. I've got a 3rd generation (1998) 4Runner LTD and am wanting to replace my stock shocks and accomplish the following (in order of importance):

1. 1. Level out infamous sagging back end
2. 2. Improve on and off road driving / handling without sacrificing too much of either
3. 3. Gain 1-2" of overall lift

Based on my reading here and chats with 4x4 buddies, I've been recommended Old Man Emu springs and shocks for their value and fact that my truck is also used for driving in town. People I've talked to who have put OME on their 4Runners tell me that handling and "the ride" both improved dramatically on and off road.

Basically, I need some help on choosing between lightweight, medium, and heavy duty tension. I may need them to different since the following is true about my rig:

• 1. Sagging back end
• 2. Rarely tow
• 4. ARB front bumper bull guard (no winch)
• 5. Offroad/camping trips often have full loads in back

Even though I won't have a winch right away -- it may be awhile even, I'm thinking that medium for both front and rear will probably be fine. I guess I'll probably need some spacers in case the weight of the heavier front end doesn't balance out the sag of backend.

What do you all think? Am I on the right track here?

Most of the sites that you purchase the springs from, have recomended uses. Wheelers offroad, says 890's are slightly firmer that stock and provide a 2.5" lift. They get stiffer from there. Sonorans site says that if your going to run any stiffer than those, it's more for towing,heavy wheeling, or aftermarket bumpers that weigh several hundred pounds over stock. It all depends on how stiff you want to go. Alot of people on here are running a Tundra/OME lift, which consists of tundra coils in the front and OME 890's in the rear. What ever you decide, good luck! Post up some picks of before and after.

 

with the arb you're better off with the 882s with a pair of n91 struts to compliment them. in fact, i have the whole package including spacer and studs for sale in the marketplace

edit: that's just for the front. i can get you a deal on the rear springs from toytec, you'd probably be best off with 891s judging by what you've said
