Valve adjustment bolts tight

Hello all. I have a 94 pickup with a 22re. I have checked the valve clearance in the past and found them about .001 or .002 on the tight side. When I went to turn the bolts to loosen the clearance, I found the adjustment bolts very tight! I did not want to snap a bolt or damage something and have to take the whole head off so I just left the adjustment under spec a little.

My question is, how tight have you guys found these bolts? Am I just paranoid about snapping a bolt or bending a rocker arm, or should I try a little harder to get them off?

Will leaving my valves .002 under spec be likely to burn them?

Thanks in advance!

i do my valves adjustment cold, and mine are under spec. i have never heard of or read where somebody stripped the nut trying to get it loose. mine are tight and i do have to put a little torque on the wrench to get them loose.

put a little torque on it. they should come loose. they wont shear off like rusted bolts cause theyre constantly bathed in oil.

the factory specs are .008 intake, and .012 exhaust warm, and a number of people recomend running the exhaust slightly tighter than that.

edit: just be careful not to nick your knuckles while pushing on the wrench when they finally come loose
