Oil change tools, recs?
I just got back from Autozone and paid ~$11 for a mobil 1 oil filter, and ~$10 for what looks like a relatively crappy oil pan/reservoir. I.m thinking there is a better way to buy the oil filters (bulk online?) and there has to be a better option for the oil p. I'm looking for something like the "suitcase" style that has a wide funnel that screws into the top and then seals up for transport to recycling facility later.
Do you guys have a recommended place buy decent tools/ parts? Maybe my autozone is just crappy.

Yeah those M1 filter prices are a poke in the eye. I was using Pure One filters ($5-6) but up here in PHX I can only find em at Pep Boys and they're not really convenient to me. I see toyotapartssales here on the board lists OEM for $3.70. Maybe they could improve on that a bit if you bought a case. Maybe they could run a group buy on case lots. Phil? Jaque?
Haven't found a good drain pan yet. They all suck.

I am a firm believer in changing the oil with the 3k mile rule. So long as you do this you can alleviate any issues really. People say synthetics and better oil filters are good but if you simply figure out what you need your fine.
Here is what I buy:
Go to walmart and buy a supertech filter. Its made by champ labs and is very good quality. Champ makes the expensive wix line and napa gold and its the same filter. Then I usually buy havoline 10w-30 in a 5 gallon jug, all for under 10 bucks and no issues yet.
Why people obsess about filters and oil I dont know, but I can tell you my grandfather does the same stuff as me and all of his vehicles last and last.

I do the synthetic change every 6k. I bought the 4runner from my dad who always did synthetic. I guess I was thinking I should keep it up. It certainly is more expensive even though I am doing it myself. Thanks for the tips all.
