OK, the disclaimer: this is a guy that works for me's truck. I haven't even looked at it, so i dont know much on the specifics. I'm just trying to get some bearing before having to go over there and fix it for him.

Its a 92 3vze. He's replaced the t-belt a couple times but he says it keeps jumping time. My question is: what kind of tensioner is on a 92, how does it work, and what would let it jump time (assuming that is the true problem). All opinions welcome!

 

and if anyone has pics of the tensioner, that would be awesome!

 

So I talked with the guy, and did some looking around. Apparently the tensioners on 92 and older 3vzes are spring actuated while 93 and later are the tensioned from the side with a piston type tensioner.

Couple questions:
1) I'd really like to see a picture of the spring type tensioner.
2) Has anyone had any problems with this spring type?
3) Can you change it over to a piston type?
4) Is there anything else that could be letting the belt jump that I'm just overlooking?
