Well I've been sitting on this tire carrier since before last winter. So I finally decided to install it.... I still have to button the interior trim back in, reinstall my 1st gen rollbar, wire in my licence plate lights, and trim my antenna mount that I welded onto the carrier... So here are a few pictures....





So now I need to install the 2" body lift, get/make a new rear bumper, and install my spool.....

That wheel was the spare from my 89 4Runner.... I just pot it on there for the hell of it... I still need to mount my spare on that rim, so I'll clean and paint it then....

Not too bad, poped out the interior pannels, then the storage box on the passanger side... Drilled the holes ond needed a helper with small hands... But all in all about 1.5 hrs. It helps to have everything you need first.... I also took .25" x 1.5" plate and bent and drilled it to match the hinges, then installed them on the inside of the pannel (acts as a really long washer) I also used 2" fender washers and grade 8 bolts. I even used RTV to seal the bolt holes....

 

OEM came with interior bracing panels...

At one time there was a project (pre-yotatech) where someone posted up the part numbers for the peices and then welded em in...

 

I think your swingarm should hold up ok, I fabbed up some 1/4'' steel back plates for mine and not a bit of movement in almost 3 yrs. But Dude, you gotta lose that nasty looking tire

so dublin, you just got a tailgate from a 90 or 91 runner? i've wanted to do this for a while.

 

Yah, I got mine off a 91. In fact I'm not sure mine even qualifys as a 94 anymore. Rear gate and swingarm 91, driver side doors 92, passenger rear door 95, hood 90 pickup (with 70 chevy cowl), 88 rollbar, ect, ect. The yard calls me when there's a new arrival.

 

It's my wifes camera, it's just one of her 1,000 000 settings.(mine crapped out)

I read that one, but wasn't too fond of hacking up the interior sheet metal to put them in...

I has also read yours, and that's where I got the idea to make the plates. I also agree that I need to loose that tire. I will clean it and paint it before I have my 33" spare mounted....

Here's the rim cleaned and rockguarded... Only paintish I had... I know about the over spray.. Not an issue...



Now just to get my 33 mounted....

 

Next time you spray a tire.. take some scrap alum flashing and make a "tube and wedge it in around the edge of the rim and use a clamp at the top to hold it together... makes for a no over spray mask...

Looks great......with the tire off.....It'll look even better with your new tire mounted. I wouldn't have worryed about the tire getting oversprayed either. That baby has seen better days (mostly before it sat mounted under the 4Runner. Nice job, post up some pics of your roll bar install next. Mmmmmm pics.

 

Ya I wasn't too worried about the overspray... As for the pictures of the rollbar install. I did it a few years ago, I can snap some pictures and give you some measurements. (original length and cut/rewelded length) Also what I use mine for...

 

A deck of playing cards works well for preventing overspray.

 

Didn't notice you already had done the rollbar, did mine a couple years too.
