I am just not a fan for the FJ to have one.
It is just not shaped right, and I prefer my hardtop.

24 pics in all at the above URL.
This is a custom one of course, not factory.
Plus, I do not agree at all with their comments about not being able to see out of the FJ.
The ones who gripe the FJ has bad visibility have obviously never driven a van or other vehicles that make you use your mirrors like you should be anyways.

I agree, I saw this on a different site and wondered why? I would like to see a completely removable hard top like the old FJ's. With a roll cage and no doors that would be pretty interesting. I really don't like that little rear window left on there either.

I can see the soccer moms and those who do not take the rig off road buying one, and even Toyota may build them in '09.
But without a roof and a roof rack, how ya gonna bring your toys to the trails?
I would be lost without my roof rack.

Call me the devil's advocate but I think the whole idea is actually pretty good. With the top down it looks very sweet but I will agree that up it looks like an abortion gone wrong, if they could square the rear corner so it better resembled the hard top it would be much better looking. As an alternative a segmented removable hard top ala the old suzuki tracker would be pretty nice also. If only they came with a stick shift...
As a comment on the original article's whining about the c-pillar I second Corey's comment the author [and everybody else] should learn hom to drive properly... with the mirrors. 'nuf said.

The gripes from the visibilty angle are somewhat justified since you gotta have a brain to keep track of your FJ's exterior demensions and the genenral public looks at that as a hassle.
Yes,I've finally driven an FJ and yes there are visibilty issues from a casual standpoint but if you choose to drive an FJ you learn to deal with the big blind spot and like Corey said use your mirrors.

Yeah the Suzuki Sidekick [chevy sold it as the Tracker my bad] came with an optional removable fibreglass top that was in two pieces the section over the front seats and the section over the rear either could be removed separately leaving the other in place.. ie. targa style or backless. IMO this would look great on the FJ... with a 5 or 6 speed manual of course... turbo diesel would be sweet too as long as I'm dreaming...

The FJ Cruisers come with a 5 sp auto or the 6 sp manual.
