Loudest, but best sounding muffler?

For a Pickup with a 22RE?

I want something loud, but not obnoxious.. I would run just straight pipes, but that only sounds good on V8s.

I was looking at the Vortex too because it seems to add a nice throaty, but low sound to a engine that can't really make that kind of exhaust note with a different muffler without sounding ricy....(small v6s)

I'm also looking at the Flowmaster 40/50 series as those seem nice also

with the 4cyl. finding the loud and deep compared to the pissed off bumble bee can be very hard. If you go with a larger pipe you run the risk of losing the right amount of back pressure. Some on the site have run flowmasters i believe there are some posts with sound clips. A cheap and decent route would be to put a turbo muffler. Anything resembling a glasspack will give the sound your not looking for.

Well, I am on the bandwagon of backpressure=bad. Regardless... But, anyhow..

I have the Flowmaster 40 on my Nissan Hardbody Z24 4Cyl, it sounds good.. But it's not loud enough, but it definitely sounds great.

That Vortex is very appealing. I wish there was a sound clip of it on a 4cyl though.

I just installed a Flowmaster Super 40 with my DT tri-y headers.Sounds really good to me compared to a Borla which is quieter.I once owned a LCE muffler and that was very loud at WOT.

I'm about to put a Dynomax Super Turbo on mine (left over from my wrecked Mustang). I'll post up a video with sound when I do it.

cherry bomb it, and put headers on it. people will hear you coming about a mile away. and it sounds good, too...for a 4 cylender.

I thought it would be cool to get a loud exhaust too, and went with jardine. After a year, I want to get rid of it. Think long term before you go out and install a headbanging, can't-hear-your-passengers, obnoxious roar from you itty-bitty 4 cylinder.

gotta agree, bark will be way more than the weak horsepower bite. but whatevs, to each their own. now if it was a v8 with power id say get a throaty one. but a 4cyl, cmon..next you are going to say its 2wd.. but to help, check youtube. they have plenty of videos. just type in 4runner or toyota and add cherrybomb or maganaflow and youll get plenty of videos.

How many people here have a v8? Not many.

It is 2wd, what's your point? You must be one of those idiots who think 2wds can't go where 4x4s go.. It's all about the driver, not the rig.

But, in any case.. I'll probably get a Flowmaster.
wow, ok. yes i am lazy and use shortforms. how about it if i write "lol", is that less annoying to you? now, you truly failed to see that I was merely trying to say, to each their own on what they like to do to their vehicles. AND then give you to direction to check youtube as there are many videos with soundclips of toyota's and aftermarket exhausts.
But whatEVS, im just an IDIOT who thinks 2wd are not as capable..not sure how i am so ignorant to think a 4wd vehicle is any more capable. my bad.
..i suggest when you get your new muffler, park in a closed garage and rev it ALOT to get the true sound.

A cherry Bomb is Illegal on Forest servive roads in My state (WA) because it is not a spark arrestor I am sure it is the same in California, that and mud flaps ar the big things the sherif is looking for in my area. Make sure to check your Local regulations

Mine with holes in it is pretty loud when I wind it out. Doesn't sound all that great though lol. I'm replacing it soon.

anyways, the 40 series i had on my 4cyl just sounded like a wet fart, not too good but at certain rpms it had a good tone. still ricey.

now whenmy exhaust pipe broke at the exhaust manifold, it sounded bad ass.
like a small block v8 almost.

In some cities, they don't allow glasspack mufflers in general, but not where I live. It just has to have a cat, but they don't check if you keep your RPMs down.
