Couple of Q's on my new FJ

I have a couple of questions on my new FJ. On the fuel filler, is it normal not to have the hinged little "door" down inside where the fuel nozzle goes? I have never seen one that is completely open like this.

This is the auto tranny... is it normal for the transfer lever to move and vibrate slightly when driving?

Oh and first new mod completed today... K&N air filter...I have a long way to go yet!

G'day Paul.

1. The fuel door is normal, but it sure would be nice if they could have included a locking one.
If you do not have a locking cap, get one.
The Stant 11504 will do the trick.

2. My transfer lever moves and vibrates also.
Perfectly normal.

3. Make sure you do not over oil that critter.
I am not a fan of filters you have to oil.
I prefer the stock Toyota filter.

Also many who use the K&N swear it lets in more dirt.
Could be the secret as to why it flows so much better.

So how are you liking the FJ?

Yes the more i thought about it the more i beleive the transfer shifter moving is normal. I assume it goes directly into the transfer case. Unlike my 4Runner which had linkage.

Still i think thats odd there is no little flap down in the fuel filler. Your right though about no gas lock. I will definitely pick one of those up.

I've used K&Ns for years on all types of vehicles. Iv'e never had any problems with them, but you can;t go crazy on oiling them. The vacuum will suck the excess oil right into the intake.

I LOVE the FJ. Everytime i look at it i smile. The power is amazing. I passed some slow moving fools the other day on the highway and when I looked at the speedo I was going 105! With the old 4Runner i would never think of passing, unles there was like a mile of open space! lol.

Glad you are liking it and the power.
I too could not beleive the speed at first.
The first time I merged onto the freeway from an on ramp I was doing 70 when I normally would be doing about 40 to 45 with the old rig.
It did not even feel like I was going that fast.

Here is a slew of FJs from yesterday, we all had fun.

Hint: Don't mention going over 65 in these threads. There are a few that are appauled that this vehicle would ever be taken over that speed as it is far too dangerous. Though, I agree... you get up to 100 with ease and the thing cruises nice at 90. Very stable and still more to go.

The speed limit is 80 out here in West TX once you get out of the city. Fuel economy goes out the window but it sure saves time.

I don't know about a governor, but i am sure it has some form of rev-limiter. I have no doubt that it would reach the indicated 120mph or even higher. I may try it ONCE at some point... or wait until someone else does it and posts. lol. I know at the 105 mark it felt completly stable.

I would probably pass out at that speed.

I think the fastest I have had mine up to so far is 80 on a straight away to see how it accelerated.
It passed the test.
