FJ40 parts

Hey guys,

I had been really wanting to get a post 1975 FJ40 for quite a while, and finally found a '79 this past March that I could afford. Anyway, as you can imagine (having spent it's life in the Northeast), it's going to need some body work. My plan is to replace the tub with an aluminum one, and just repair all of the other body parts as needed (most are in pretty good shape). I was curious as to where you guys have found the cheapest prices for new aluminum tubs. The cheapest I have come across was about $1600, but now I can't remember which parts dealer it was from. Also, these are the main parts dealers I have come across: Specter, JT Outfitters, Cool Cruisers, Rocky Mountain Cruisers....am I missing any?

Thanks a lot for the info and tips. I am really excited to be part of the Cruiser family. Now, I just need to find some free time and some money to get working on it! Take care-

Cody

Hey!!
Welcome to the world of cruisers. You probably know the 79 is different in the body than the older ones (your fuel tank is under the body, I think you have 3.7 gears, you have the stronger birfields).
I have some suppliers listed in the sticky at the top of the forum.

Some body parts:
Aquala: (aluminum) http://www.aqualu.com/
Canada Cruisers: (steel) http://www.canadacruisers.com/index.htm

Hey David,

Thanks for the reply and info. Unfortunately, as I am pretty new to the family, I am not familiar with a lot of the details pertaining to my rig...I only really knew/know enough to decide which year of cruiser that I wanted. Anyway, I will check out the links and the other suppliers in the sticky thread you posted.

I know that I will have many, many questions about my cruiser. I am pretty active on the 4Runner, but hope to participate more on here as well. Thanks again for your help, and I look forward to picking your brain some more later! Take care-

Cody

There are a few additional places to find some of the parts. I have been looking at http://www.heartoftexasoffroad.com and they seem to have good prices on steel. I have heard good things about them too but never actually delt with them personally. I have also seen http://www.extremebends.com they are in Canada I believe and I have no affiliation with them either.

Good luck. I will probably be doing the same on one of my cruisers shortly as well. Enjoy

just plan all your work first. nothing worse than ripping off a tub and then decide to soa or add a body lift, spring/shock change etc...
