Body Shifted after Accident?

Well I put up a thread about getting rear ended on the highway, but now I've noticed a problem.

Whenever I make a hard(ish) turn in either direction, I hear and feel a thud that seems to be coming from the rear. I checked the spare, its secure, everything else seems secure as well. My friend and I were talking and he was thinking could it be possible that the body shifted in the accident and is now slightly loose. There's nothing rolling around in the back or anything and I never had this problem before the accident. Ideas?

Get your body mount bolts and attachment points checked right away there could be some major damage there that you can't see. It might look okay when it is sitting still but under load when you are turning it could be parting... you should get a dye penitrant test done.
There was a story about an airliner that that was suffering control surface problems but they could not see any damage when they visiually inspected it... they did a dye test a found that the main spar was cracked! When it was sitting there the parts lined up perfectly and the crack disappeared but under load it opened right up... the lesson.. looks can be decieveing...
cheers aviator

I doubt the body mount bolts were damaged much from that little hit.

might have broken the spare tire mount causing the tire to swing back and forth. Long shot but worth a shot.

Sorry I haven't replied, I'm in California for a funeral. I'm pretty sure it's not the spare tire mount, I thought about that and went under there and couldn't get it to budge. The impact wasn't horrible, but it still was a pretty bad hit because that guy was trying to slow from 50 to 0 in only a few seconds. I could hear his tires screech before he hit me, but I'll get it checked. An adjuster is coming to look at it but I guess I'll have someone else look first.

When you did your lift did you add a panhard drop bracket? If so check that all the bolts on that are tight as well as the bolts for your panhard bar.

this may seem stupid but open up your little compartment you have in the back on the passenger side where the tire iron and some other tools are stored. on mine there in a bag of tools back there that are strapped in. check those

for a couple of days i was hearing something rattle around and i couldnt figure it out to save my life. i thought it was my tire carrier. it turned out that when i when wheeling i came down in a ditch hard on my trailor hitch and it knocked the strap loose that was holding down those tools.

check that out.

what about the rear wheel/axle bearings? Is the sound only comming when doing a right or left turn or both? How are the bushings in all your leafsprings, any that may be disintgrated or damaged from the hit? check for a cracked leaf.

even better JUST TURN UP THE RADIO! LOL!

do you have a rear sway bar? I would check that if you do also check the rear leaf springs.

I had a Mazda b2000 years ago and it would make a knock when I cornered sharp in my case the spring mount had rusted and the whole axle would shift a inch and when the spring cam back it would clunk when looking under the truck you could not see the rear end of the spring mount was rusted off until we jacked it up by the frame then it was obvious.

also check all of your factory jack stuff is still in place and not knocking around

when I got my 4 runner there was a knock and it was a 1 ft level that had got over the wheel well and would bounce around.

Replying to all:
- I checked the compartments first thing, everything's strapped down and tight.
- Don't have leaf springs, so that's ruled out.
- Yes I did add a panhard bracket, I'll check that out, although today I realized it also does it when if I slow down quickly, it's just not as loud.
- And last, Thank you everyone for the ideas.
