Hello, im new here and already asking for help...

I literally just bought my 91 LC. The transmission will not kickdown to 1st gear while driving. i can manually shift into first, but it wont do it on its own. It just stays in the 4th gear all the time unless you romp on it and even then it will only downshift to 3rd.

Its not slipping at all and actually feels like it grabs really well.

Ive had a few friends suggest flushing the system. one friend even said it might be the throttle position sensor. Any ideas??

you should try adjusting the shift cable. I used to have to manually shift mine into third for hills but not it does it at half throttle. It is located on the top rear of the throttle body. Loosen both nuts on the cable and move it toward the driver side...so more threads will be exposed on the passenger side. It is easy to do. If you do it too much you will know cause it will idle at about 2k when in park And it is hard to slow it down with the brakes too! So just keep some wrenches with you to get in right. Good luck

J

Thanks! Someone on another site suggested the same thing last night so i tried it first thing this morning. Tranny runs and shifts like a champ! i think its going to take some fine tuning, but at least its shifting.
