I had my marlin crawler clutch installed last week, I have about 335kms on it so far.
This started a few days ago but since its hard to hear over my exhaust I didnt think about it.

Then today I could clearly hear it, it almost sounds like a belt thats squealing but it only happens when my clutch is ingauged, weather it be in nutral or in gear, as soon as I push the clutch pedal down about 1/2" it goes away.
Im starting to think its one of the bearings that was replaced (throw out and pilot bearing came with the kit)

So yeah, any ideas on what this is and if its okay to drive with it?
I can hopfally take the truck in tomorrow but I need to use it today to go install some smoke detectors and whatnot at a work house. (about a 70km roundtrip)

Give it time to break in.........1000 mi. Alot of tolerances to overcome with new parts to old mating.

I thought we did somthing wrong when we installed it...
I am taking it to the mech anyways to see what he has to say, but I wanted to make sure it would be okay to drive..
other then people looking at me with wierd looks

 

Hey, did your squeak ever go away? I installed a clutch in my 91 3.0 about a month ago and mine still has the exact same squeak you described in your first post. Did you take it into a mechanic to get it looked at? What did he say? Anyone have advice for me on this?

 

Its still making the noise intermitidly.
Mech said its the throw out bearing, I can drive it and it wont hurt anything but its just an anoying sound.

I have yet to make the decision to have the tranny dropped to see if its a faulty part or a mistake in instalation.
I have put over 1000kms on it so far..

 

I'm not sure how far 1,000 Km's is, but y clutch didn't make any noises whenit was in break in. It just chatters now with only 18,000 miles on it.

 

500miles is around 800 kms. so probibly close to 700-750 miles.

I think its km x 1.6342 = mile or somthing like that

 

Ya, mine was a cheaper clutch from Autozone. Back in Jan I put this clutch in and 6 months later it started making a lot of noise. I replaced it (lifetime warantee) and figured the throwout bearing must have failed prematurely. This clutch I have in now that is chirping is actually my second Autozone clutch. If I pull this one I'll be onto my third clutch. Im starting to think that maybe Im just installing that throwout bearing wrong. You just use that little wire clip thing to hold it against the fork. Is there any trick to remember while doing that?

But back on the topic at hand: Guys at marlincrawler told me I probibly installed the little clip on the throwout wrong but im pretty sure we did it right... If it dosnt go away by say 1000miles we will drop the tranny and see what the hell is up.

 

ya, i had a mechanic i know tell me that i probably installed the clip wrong also. I've gone at least 1000 miles with that noise so I'll probably drop it this weekend and check it out.

i've had the same problem and im about to put a clutch in, keep us updated

 

So I wrapped up the clutch job last night. I replaced my clutch, again, because this one was making a squeeking noise whenever the clutch pedal was not pressed in. Although, if I even pressed the pedal in 1/2 inch the noise would go away. So when I got the old clutch off I realized that the noise must have been the throwout bearing rubbing on the fingers of the clutch cover. Thats the only thing it could have been. The thing that doesn't make sense is that the throwout bearing is supposed to rub on those fingers. I don't think its ever supposed to not be in contact with them. Some of the fingers were bent in a little bit, so they weren't all uniform. So anyways, I put the new clutch on and all went well on my 15 minute ride around the neighborhood. No more annoying squeak. The only thing I did differently this time around was that I cleaned and greased the shaft that the throwout bearing rides on. I don't think I did that before. If the noise comes back I'll drive my car off a cliff and let you all know.

I pulled my tranny 3 times until I discovered the clips on clutch fork that hold the throwout bearing were on backwards..

makes a chattering noise if they're not.. (marlins 1200lb).

clips on right, noise is gone.. I think I've put around 3 or 4k on it thus far.. Great clutch

and don't grease the face of the throwout bearing (that contacts the pressure plate fingers).

Also ALL the fingers should be the same (non should be out or pushed in when you're looking at it!!!)

 

i have the same squeak on my clutch and I put the marlin throw out bearing on the same way i pulled the old one off...I love the clutch hate the noise and its hard for me to pull the tranny by my self on top of that the exhaust needs to be cut to get it off...so i just turn up the radio

 

Doing my clutch now AND want to make sure i install throw out bearing clip right...........i have a 89 toyota pickup manual trans v6............i dont see clip i have in the repair manual.............want to make sure i get it on right
