Question CD Player giving error message...any ideas?

Did a quick search with no luck-- the stock cd player in my '97 4runner has decided not to accept any cds. It has worked for us flawlessly for the 3 yrs we had it. Is this unit just getting too old, or is there a cleaning option? Kinda low on funds, so I can't afford another unit--may have to go with an Ipod car kit i guess...

I'll sell you the double-DIN 3-cd changer from my '98 cheap.

Mine was doing the same thing. It kept happening over about a 6 month period, I cleaned it a few times and it finally gave out this month. I just bought an aftermarket CD player of ebay, got a pretty good deal.

so a total of ten years out of a stock cd player? thats fantastic, the average lifespan I see is about 2-3 years.

I'd probably ditch the factory and look for aftermarket, you can cet something that'll play mp3's as well as some have the input to use your I-pod or some other outboard source (even a walkman if you choose), for about $150 installed. course you can spend upwards of $2k if you want video and nav.

if you hit up a shop, dont let em tell you that you need a rewire to make it work, there is an amp, but the amp is right behind the deck and just unplugs.
