Need help with Oil Pressure Gauge
Hey all
Wondering if you guys could help me out, My oil Pressure Gauge isn't working in my 91 4runner with a 22re. I am going on a road trip mid next week and need to fix it fast. I am thinking about putting an aftermarket gauge in. Please let me know your opinions on the fastest affordable way. Also if you know of any installation tips that would be awsome.
Thanks

First check if your sending wire is hooked up to the oil pressure sender. It's right above your oil filter. Next, unhook the wire, and ground it to a chassis ground. The needle on the gauge should go all the way up. This tells you the gauge is good but the sender is bad. If it doesn't move, then your gauge is bad.

I'm also having a problem with my Oil Pressure gauge...
I've got a 94 pickup V6.
I've owned it a little over a year and drive it daily.
When I first start up the Oil pressure gauge will peg all the way to the max pressure. After a couple minutes of driving it will slowly have made it's way down to a normal level. After another couple of minutes will will work it's way down to zero at idle and spike up when accelerating... a few minutes after that it will just sit at 0 and not move at all. FWIW it's a 35min drive to work 1 way and it'll be sitting at 0 after about 10 minutes. If I take it out again while the engine is still warm it will start right at 0.
The truck doesn't leak any oil at all, it doesn't run hot, but it does burn about 1/2qt between regular oil changes.
could this be the gauge or sender or is it possible that there is something wrong with the engine related to the oil burning that is causing the readings I'm getting?
If it is the sender where could I get a new one?
I'm new to all this stuff and I've been fixing up the truck over the last year so go easy on me.
