my cv has gone bad has anyone bought one from autozone

here is my situation i only has $300 to my name untill next month. Now my cv joint has gone bad and i need one bad. Now autozone offers a life time warranty with their joints. so if anyone has bought one from there it would have a life time warranty and a unlimited number of joints. they only thing i need to use the warranty is your name and phone number (that the warranty is under). I have used their warranty with other parts for a ton of parts. i have then tie rod ends the brake pads the rotor cap and few other things if you want them. so i anyone wants to help me out i would be very gratefully . i have a 2 gen 4runner

Really can't go wrong with a $70 lifetime warranty CV. Buy 3 of 'em. If some break on the trail, just swap in a fresh one, take the crap one back for a free replacement...viola, no worries!

You know it because of doing things like this, that drives the parts cost up for all of us! What your sudgesting is basicly a form of stealing. Just pay for the part when you get the money.

Yeaa - if you don't have any money - go pick up a used one from a scrap yard / junk yard. If the CV Boot is good then the CV joint is probably in pretty good shape on a used one. Thieving off of someone elses warranty just puts the prices up on new parts for everyone - Not a good idea.

I guess you could go rob a bank and then buy the part. You might even get free room and board for a few years too.

Not really risk free. If they found out you were doing it they might even take you and whoever lets you use their Warranty to court for fraud. But yes - somewhat less risky than robbing a bank, maybe only 6 months in Club Fed.

do you work? If not, get a job.

If you do, get a better job, or at least one that pays more.

i just cant deal with you goodie goodies. i'm sure i'll get 20 years for fraud for that $70 cv joint. i think someone should call the cops and tell them i'm trying to rip off autozone for a cv joint for a 4runner v6. i'm sure they'll get a good laugh

230 dollars for 2 weeks sounds pretty easy. Go buy the CV joint then your friends will have CV warrenty when they need it and so will you.

If you are really that hard up for $ then pull the axle out and drive without it. When you have the money to buy a new one then you are half way done with replacing the thing. Getting the old one off is the biggest headache of the deal anyways.

so to play devils advocat....

whats the diff with helping the guy out and the comp guy that bought one $70 one and exchanges them every 2 weeks?

or the guy on ebay that will sell you a $70 shaft (but that includes a $60 core) and $15 shipping and just takes the core back to AZ, gets a new one, and puts it back up on ebay again....

Personally id put in a few extra hrs, or cut an extra yard or 2 to pay for the parts.

you CAN drive around with them pulled out you know....

Here's the devils advocate for you:

Why do you need the CV? the runner can drive for the next few weeks without 4wd dude. If you can't do without 4wd, what happens if you break another part that you don't have the money to fix?

Suck it up and buy it. Justifying stealing is lame dude. Really lame. If you can't think of any other way to get one than stealing, you're one sorry individual.

Seriously tho, stop spending so much time online and get a job. Then you'll have the money to do it legit like the rest of us.

If those things are only 70 then that's a smoking deal even without a warranty.
I worked at AutoBoned from 92 to 96 and the warranty program changed in that period. A lifetime warranty meant numerous replacements free.....then they changed it to 1 free then give the money back to the customer and have them get it from someone else. I don't know how they handle it now. ZUK

i have a job my day off today, i don't have one very often. i just spent too much money this month on stuiped stuff. I should have more than enough by the 1st. I don't think its lame to steal. snap-on has a good point, about the guy that gets a new cv, or what ever part, every few weeks cause he brakes it off roading. do you really think auto zone had that in mind when set up the life time warranty. I think most people would forget about the warranty and just rebuy the part. autozone doesn't make any money from the warranty its just a selling point most people forget about them. what is so wrong with stealing, i've been stolen from and i've bought stolen stuff. its all good.
