What's up again guys, i recently purchased a marlin crawler clutch kit and put it in my truck (94 4runner 4x4), got everything bolted up, and started her up. Everything seemed fine until i tried to shift gears and it acted as if the clutch was not fully disenguaged (grinded, would not go into gear, etc), but it goes into gear when the truck is off. Are there any adjustments that need to be made to the slave cylinder, master cylinder, or petal due to the new clutch pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing etc.

 

Did you bleed the line?

If so, did you get everything back together properly?

 

i am pretty sure i got everything back together properly, i bled the line once to no avail, same problem. Its as if the slave cylinder is not pushing out far enough, and the clutch isn't disenguaging fully (like trying to shift gears without using the clutch petal) Everything went back together so smoothly, this is all that is keeping me from driving my rig again.

 

sounds like theres air in the line.

try putting the clutch in, putting it into neutral, letting the clutch out, putting it back in, and then putting it into gear.

 

Check the clutch bracket under the dash while you're engaging the clutch. They occasionally crack & bend enough to prevent full clutch engagement.

 

are you sure your throw out bearing is in right?

 

I have seen this a couple of times and have never been able to explain it but the way we fixed it was put a nut or anything that can be used as a bushing in between the the rod on the slave cylider and the clutch ear. Take a little fine tunning to get it where it will release the clutch but not so much to where it will slip, its not that hard .. I have seen this a couple times and thats the redneck fix

 

Mine did the same thing after a clutch replacement. It would barely go into gear without really forcing it in and would even grind going into reverse. Turned out to be the clutch pedal adjustment under the dash. All it took is to crawl underneath, loosen the nut, thread the master cylinder rod out some and retighten the nut. Only took me 5 minutes or so and it shifts like butter now. Hope this helps!

fixed the problem, adjusted the pedal adjuster almost all of the way out and it almost fixed the problem, so then i was able to fabricate a new slave cylinder rod that was maybe 1/2 inch longer, shifts smooth as butter now. Thanks for the help guys, 500 miles for break-in and then to the mudhole we go
