You'd be turning about 3500 rpm trying to go 60 mph. Not a good idea IMO unless you plan on going 32's or 33's in the future. Sure you'd have more power off the line but trying to cruise would suck.

That seems like a high number gear to use with 30's. Your RPM's will be higher at HWY speeds. Thus, MPG will be affected. What gear is in it now? Most people change gearing to run larger tires.

I drove my truck home from the shop with 5.29 on 30x9.50 tires. Around town it was actually pretty good. I didn't get a chance to try it on the highway, I was going very, very easy on the drive home and stopping a lot to let the diffs cool down. Ultimately I think the pavement would be pretty hard to take, your top speed would be like 55MPH and that would be at high RPMs.

Is your truck a 5 speed or auto. I don't think it would be too bad if it was an auto. I run 4.56 with 32's and steep hills are a problem. On the highway I lose acceleration on long grades and in the sand I usually run out of steam if the hill is soft and tall. I'm going to go with 4.88's and 33's pretty soon. BTW - 4.88 was stock for an auto with 31's for the 3.0 not sure about the 22RE.

4.88 + 33 + auto is gonna suck just as bad, if not worse than what you had before. If you have an auto and are gonna regear, you need to be looking at 5.29's or 5.71's...

Wait - you like dunes and use the truck on the road a lot, but you bought 30x9.50 BFG Muds?

Sell the tires before you get many miles on them and get something that will help you in the sand and the road like the BFG A/T. If you love the dunes, you need tall AND wide tires, like a 33x12.50 ...

Yes i know i bought the tires before i start to improve the performance ( but the main reason was the look). Ok TC maybe i'll put 31x10.5 but i'm not so sure about 33 (dont know if they fit).

I got crower cam (state 2), 2.25" pipes no catalizers (i live in Mexico), air cold filter, 30x9.50 BF mud, new MAF & TPS.

I'm starting to think that the idea of changing gear is not what i need, Any recommendation about the next adding or i stick with the gear changes.

33x10.50 on the stock rims will fit with NO lift (that's what I run and it doesn't rub and flexes OK)

(check out the link in the sig for more pix)

If its a manual and yer tires are stock ish in size (aka 29") then drive around w/o using 5th (aka 4th is top gear) and that will give you a good idea of cruise NVH etc...

what about 4.88 and 31's. Isn't that what TOYOTA put in from the factory with 31 tire package? It shoud be fine then. I lose speed on all hills I try to climb in 4rth. Even going 65 drop it into 4th, it slowly loses speed. I need 3rd to be alittle lower to use it on the hill up to my house, can't pull 3rd up it. I have 2.25" cat back with K&N filter, tried to cone but didn't feel anything.

I can buy some 33x12.50 for 100$ Dayton MT with good tread. But I can't fit them yet. I think I will just buy tham.

Okay.

Well, I've run my 4.88's with a 28.5 BFG AT. Guess what? It was fine. I ran them that way for more than a year. it was around 3k or so at 60-65, but nothing horrible. I couldn't really go 75-80 without really winding it out, but that was fine for where i drive. 4.88's will be fine with a 30 or 31. quit worrying so much.
