So I striped my ring and pinion teeth by some bizare act of God and am trying to find a new set, the toyota dealership said I would have a hard time finding a set for this and I thought I had 4.56s but upon looking up from my vin tag
I see that it says 28 = 4.300 AT, 225/75. The door jam says 225/75s but the vehicle came with 31s stock and a Manual Transmission. So....does anyone know what the deal is?

My vin tag says R150F I have a R151 according to the stamp on my tranny that I just had out a month ago. My tag says 225/75 but it came stock with 31s says the P.O. So did I get a factory fluke vehicle or what?

4:30's would be standard for an automatic. Not for a 4-pinion, V6, differential. G284 is odd on a manual or a 4 cyl non-turbo. Could be incorrect.

Mine was. It says G292. Which should be 4:10's in a 2-pinion differential. It did have 4:10's, but in a 4-pinion diff. Mine's a V6, so I had the right diff, but the code should read G294.

 

Just look at the gears just count the teeth on the ring and pinion and the ring # divided by the pinion # is your answer.

 

Mine came with 31's but the door tag says 225's.

I'm glad I looked on this thread. I needed an axle chart.

 

Many (or all) trucks with 31x10.50 tires were shipped from Japan with P225/75R15 tires. When they reach the USA, they get the 31 inchers (and probably alloy wheels) installed. If you take your VIN to the dealer, they can tell you if the wheel/tire combo you have is a "port install". Mine is. The door jamb sticker says P225, but the dealer computer says 31". I assume that all of this is to save cargo space on the ships, as well as preventing damage to the alloy wheels in transit.

Those are not factory alloys. Perhaps they were installed by the dealer as some sort of Bling Bling factor, but definetly not a Toyota part.

4.88 is the perfect R&P setup for whatcha got goin'. (in my opinion) especially if you make the jump to 32 or 33 inch tires. My only recomendation is that you use yukon components and have them cryo'ed. I had mine done by bobby long, and ya know... I won't ever regret it. The parts are expensive and such a bother to deal with, might as well do it up proper the first time. I had a really positive experience with Randy's Ring and Pinion.
