Has anyone done this? In the process of taking out the motors, what changes will I need to make the V6 work in the 22re truck. If there are significant changes could you direct me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Right off the top, you're looking at engine, engine wiring harness, ECU, transmission, transfer case, and motor mounts all needing to be changed.

If you are seriously considering this, you might want to think about a 3.4 swap, unless you have a GOOD 3.0 already in hand.

I'm not sure, since I haven't dealt with 4 bangers, but I think that the 2.7 might be a more do-able swap. I'm sure that others will let you know.

 

Thanks for the reply I should have stated that I already have the V6 it came from a 1988 that was a roll over so all the wiring harnesses, ECU, transfer case and transmission are all there. What would be the best way to do the motor mounts cut them off the V6 truck and put them in the four cylinder or is there a company that sells the motor mounts?

 

I went the other way. I took a V6 truck and put a 22RE in it. I had to cut the engine mounts and re-weld them. Actually worked out pretty good if you take your time. You'll also have other simple things like changing out the accelerator cable and things like that. You are off to a really good start having the donor vehicle with you. Definitely just unplug the harness from the ECU and pull it through the fire wall leaving everything attached to the engine.

 

My truck has the same done to it. The previous owner swapped in a rebuilt 2.4L in place of the dead 3.0.

The chassis' are the same so there shouldn't be much more to it than to just take things out of the donor truck and stick them in the recipient truck.

All the mounts will need to be welded in, and the harness.

 

Really not worth the trouble for that engine, even with it already on hand. You're better off unloading the rollover, and finding another 22re or the 3rze (2.7l 4cyl). It'll be less labor and a better engine.
