Question Aisin SFA / Aisin IFS Locking hubs

Is there a difference between the Aisin Locking hub that is on the SFA '84-'85 over the Aisin hub that is on the '86+ IFS trucks? They look the same as well as the hub they bolt onto.

I see the SFA doesn't have a bolt and is held in by a clip ring towards the end of the axle shaft whereas the IFS half shafts have a bolt in the end of the shaft holding on the locking hub body. Is this the only noticable difference?

If you change over to IFS hubs on a SFA (the brake upgrade) it's not necessary to also use the IFS locking hubs is it?

Thanks for the info!

John

I don't know, but I saw on your 85 runner thread that you removed the rear bumper brackets from your runner. Do you still have them?

they are diffrent. if you have a solid axle that you are upgrading to the landcruiser rotors then you need the sa hubs. if you are using sky's widening kit then you use the ifs hubs.

So, my understanding here (sorry to sound silly, just clarifying) is the following:

If you upgrade to the vented FJ rotors on a factory SFA, you need the SFA wheel & locking hubs?

If you are just using the Sky spacers you use the IFS wheel & locking hubs?

Do you switch to the bolt which holds on the hub when going to the IFS (meaning @ the end of the axle shaft) or do you us the snap / lock ring from the SFA set up?

Ugh I dont think so... Skys kit doesnt change the fact that IFS is 27 spline and SFA is 30spline. I'm pretty sure of that. If not I was gonna be in for a rube awakening when I used that kit.

I think he is talking about WHEEL hubs, not manual hubs.

Yeah but you still dont switch splines count on your axle when you go with sky spacers...
