Time to let the baby go
Well, I've had my 4Runner for almost a week. We originally bought it with the intention that my wife would drive it during the week so my commute wouldn't pile on the miles or eat us alive with fuel costs (I'm 25miles one way, she's 3miles). Well, she learned how to drive a 5spd much faster than I anticipated. Friday, she wants to drive it to work.
I should be happy that she learned how to drive a 5spd so quickly and feels comfortable enough to drive alone now, but daaaamn, I was hoping for a month or two with the Runner. Looks like I'll be banished to the Pontiac Grand Am sooner than I had planned.

Trust me, I'd love to. However, we do need at least one vehicle that gets over 20mpg. My commute is too damn long. I filled up the Runner Sunday and have already burned over half a tank, just on commuting.

I don't *have* to give it up, but it's smarter financially. Besides, if I drive the Pontiac on a daily basis, it'll force me to repair some of the minor issues I can ignore by not riding in it every day (rattles, loose trim, rough idle, etc). I'm already looking at Toyotas again though. Our budget can withstand another car payment, but I really don't want one (with today's economy, I'd rather not gamble).
BTW, after dropping my Runner off at the Toyota dealership for the rear suspension recall, I strolled through the used lot. I got mine for a steal. Similar models with similar miles are at least 7k over what I paid (tax/tag/title increases the difference). You don't find deals like that very often...

May I suggest one of these that gets 53 MPG minimum, up to 70 MPG and hauls ba**s like a 650cc bike should.
Or one of these that gets 24 MPG.

now that I think about it, my boyfriend drives the 4runner more than I do, because on weekdays except for Wed. and Saturday he drives me from home to work and then to home again and then to work again to pick me up, sometimes I drive after I finish work, but most of the time he drives. I only drive on Wed. and Sunday and that's basically it, unless I don't have to work and stuffs....When we first got it, I wouldn't let him drive me because this is MY truck and so I loved it too much, but i've learned to let go and I like being a passenger once in a while.

well there's nothing I can do, there's no parking at my work and at my school, so either he drives or I pay some outrageous price for meter parking every single day......less expensive to let him drive, even if it uses more gas....

Hey mtnbkr, check out the new corrollas, The SE's are pretty sweet, and I imagine they get good mileage. At least it's a Toy!! I recently got a new job which is farther away, but it is nearly all expressway for the commute. Now I am noticing that I am getting 40-50 more miles on a tank. I can get nearly 375 miles on a tank if I drive it real nice.
Cheers

I want to hear nooo complaints about mileage..
I drive 45 miles ONE WAY to work every day.. Thats roughly 500 every 5 days plus the weekend... I swear I have put over 10000 miles in the last too monthes alone..
Maybe a taco will get better mileage, or move closer to work??!!
