With the 22re engine. Who makes the clutch for Toyota? Also, who's the guy who can get us factory parts at a pretty good price off retail? Thanks.

trail-gear.com has what appear to be the aisin seco (ASCO) clutches as well.

Whichever way you go, I'd get the OEM pilot bearing from the dealer. They are cheap insurance.

Collecting my data (and hopefully a little wisdom), the prices, and i'm sure the quality varies all over the place. 82 bucks at the local Autozone, to up over 300 bucks at other places.

I'm just trying to come up with the right combo........my 4runner will simply be used to haul the kids around, go to the grocery store, tow a very small fishing boat, etc. And maybe just a little light duty "two trackinig".

Don't need a heavy duty rock crawler clutch......just a high quality one. Thanks.

Plus, with the engine at the machine shop now, now is the time to get a new clutch in there!!

Edit: I guess I'm leaning towards OEM, not some Chinese junk that Autozone would sell me.

Rear main seal?.......Man, everything is getting replaced!! More new parts in this thing when I get done with it it oughta' be new!!

The rear main seal, the rubber part, I could peel the rubber off with my finger and thumb, just by rolling it.

yeah, it was time!!

Shifter bushing???? I'll have to try and figure out where that one is at. I'm assuming (love that word) it's in the transmission somewhere?

Northridege got back with me on quoting a price for a clutch for my 4runner:

disc $64.07 w/core $6.00
plate $96.67 (this must mean the basket?)
throw out bearing $34.88
pilot $7.39

Believe that adds up to $209.01 shipped to my door.

My local Toyota dealership quoted me $266.00 out the door.

Man, genuine Toyota parts are expensive!! I don't know if I want to spend that much money.

Your thoughts? Thanks.

Another vote for the Marlin.

I've had stock.
I've had the centerforce dual friction

Now I have the Marlin - much better. And the price is half.

get quality and only cry once.

I know I've cried several times because I'm going to have to replace my clutch again after 40k km when the original OEM lasted over 200k km.

Although my experience is anecdotal, I've seen several postings here suggesting that your risks of going non-OEM can be reduced by avoiding chinese made pilot bearings. Based on my symptoms I expect to find exactly that when I go in to replace my clutch. This time I'm doing it myself.

I should rephrase my last response.........I'm not afraid to spend a little more on quality parts, since the last thing I want to do is put another clutch in this thing, however, I am a little gun shy about purchasing things thru the mail/internet, and not really knowing what I'm getting until the box shows up. Sometimes, it's still hard to figure out what you purchased even when you open the box and look at the part.

I am comfortable with purchasing items that are legitimally (sp) made in Japan. This repackaging/re-boxxing an item and pawning it off as top of the line scares me off a little.

I think the best thing I can do is go with one of the reputable guys on this forum.........

And like I said, one thing I'm trying to avoid is purchasing something and then figureing out the thing was made in China.
