About 4 months ago, my 4Runner was getting bad gas mileage, and had no power (the 3.0 was rebuilt less than 6 months ago by a reputable shop using ALL new OEM parts).

Anyhow, it turned out to be a bad fuel injector on the number 3 cylinder.

Well, I was driving to work today and I had the same problem as I did 4 months ago... No power...
I pulled the spark plugs (and there is PLENTY of spark) one by one. Sure enough, cyl 3 is not firing...


One more thing.
The thing that initiated the rebuild is that the number 3 cylinder had a rod knock...

So, I wonder if these things are related.
I am thinking that the problem here is the engine wire...

Any ideas here?

 

Check compression on #3 before assuming it's an injector.

 

When you say 3 is not firing, what do you mean? No spark? Or what?

 

Compression is where it needs to be.
Also, I am getting spark.
I shocked myself pretty good when I pulled the plug wires to find out which cylinder isn't firing.

It's the number 3 cylinder not getting fuel.

 

good pulse to the injector?

 

check the pulse to the injector for possible wiring harness short. If that's good, you have a bad injector.

 

I am pretty sure it's a short or an open in the wiring harness.

I hit a good bump and the engine looses power.
I hit another good bump and everything is working fine again.
