My truck, 88 Runner

I got the truck two years ago from my co-worker for $300. I have been working on it little by little since as the funds and interest become aviable... Well, interest is the biggest issiue, I have too many hobbies I guess, plus it is really lots of work and I do not want it to turn into job. I made this thread to cheer myself up and finish regearing front diff. I have parts sitting and waiting since December. I wasn`t sure what I want to do with front, SAS, locker or just plain regear. Finally decided to just regear it for now, maybe later I will fo with something more hard core....

elocker with 4.88s, Downey 2inch springs

285/70R17

comming soon... with some winch and bracket.
I`m thinking portable winch bracket that alows use on the back bumper also.
Spare is a problem, I have 305/70R17 for spare, that is lots of weight... maybe just make bracket inside and load it for offroading only?

$300, that was long time ago. I`m close to $4000 by now. I`m aiming for $5000 ready with everything.

Pictures show the journey. Biggest job was engine overhaul, with A/C and everything, then tranny, t-case, driveshafts, leaf springs, e-locker, exhaust and etc. I fixed up interior with updated stereo, steering wheel and seat recover.... It was fun, most of the time

Front diff finally!

Well, finally I became motivated enough this week to finish front differential job.
I got 7.5inch 4.88 gear set from Yukon and some OEM Toyota instal kit couple of months ago, all I needed was couple of days of good mood.
I was thinking of getting straight axle, but after seeing my front diff it will not happenat any time soon. I bought the truck from oryginal owner and he told me he didn`t off-road it. He told me the truth, there was hardly any signs of usage on ring set. I must take picture of it, I forgot.

Red and white and expensive too..

Yukon ring

Picture perfect contact patterns

Thinkin`...
Interest doesn`t go away permamently, just comes and goes... specialy if there is not much play involved but steep work. I have many other interests, they just alternate:

... and then some

Back to the runner:

I need to wire that locker next, I tought of getting Downey actuator, but fork them I will go factory harness.
I want portable winch, outside roll cage and swing spare tire carrier.... oh btw forget floating axle, Tundra calipers and all alround disc brakes..................

Those are FJ factory rags. They are water repelent and very nice.

I spend lots of time in the interior, previous owner was a slab. You should see people faces when I pulled to detail joint and ask them to clean truck inside and tint the windows.LOL... they were not very happy.

Ha!, well then yes technically. Between your YT name and the one in your sig. I drew to such a conclusion. I thought they might have been from an earlier rig like an FJ40 or something.

Wireing was easy. I got factory pig tail for a radio and wireing diagrams for both `88 and 2006.

Mounting was difficult tho. I had to fabricate sleve from aluminum sheet to acomodate new stereo.
