Celica 22RE oil pan

Hey guys,

I've done some reading in this forum about other people using early 80's Celica engines in their P/U's and 4Runners. Almost in each of the threads it was suggested that they swap oil pans and oil pickups on the Celica engine with ones from the truck engines.

By chance though, it seems like all of the swaps were done on 4x4's. I'm just wondering if there is clearance in a 2wd chassis (1987) for an 1985 Celica 22RE oil pan? If not, how do you go about swapping the oil pickups?

thank you!

I kind of think that Celicas, 4x4 and 4x2 trucks all used different oil pans, but I could be mistaken. The oil pickup tube is inside of the oil pan bolted to the block by four bolts. If you need to swap the oil pan, you will see it when you take the oil pan off. If you swap it, clean the screen while you are in there. You will need a pickup tube gasket, and Napa was the only place I could find one sold individually.

And the oil pan is a royal PITA to get at if your truck is a non-lifter 4x4 cause of the dang front diff...

My 1" bl and tbars being cranked weren't even enough to slide mine out... Ended up dropping the front diff to get it out.

Thanks for the replies swampthing and supernerd. Luckily I've already got the engine out so I won't have to remove any of the front-end parts. I still have the old engine so looks like I'll just take off the pick-up tube from that. As far as the gasket goes, I have no idea but I'll start looking.

Thanks!
