I am preparing plans for the build up of another 22RE for my runner. I am eyeing EB's kits, and for a bit of extra ponies I am going to have the block bored .030" (I was told .040" is the most the 22R blocks can have, so I want to save a little for future needs) Here is my delema-

I saw EB has some Turbo Pistons which I could realistically use. I won't be running a Turbo or a Supercharger, however I wish for about 175-200hp. I would like the piece of mind of the added strength and durability if the turbo pistons provide that.
Is there a noticeable difference in the way the standard .030" pistons and turbo pistons are made and there features?? If using the Turbo Pistons without a turbo, does that effect/lower the compression of the engine? I will probably be running a performance 22RE head. I would do the 20R head however the EFI I hear is not a bolt on to the 20R.

running turbo pistons will give you less compression. what you should do is get your 30 over pistons/rings and take em to the machine shop and them bore the cylinder to the pistons so you get the best clearences.

 

That's what the machine shop wants me to do. I just thought the Turbo pistons would be a bit more stout, however if they give less compression then I will stick with standard style pistons.
