its about time i get around to upgrading the speakers. the stock paper filters just dont get the job done. ive got an alpine amp to the speakers, but it doesnt really help much. ive got a sony hu that gets the job done quite well. i had subs but sold them because they took up too much space and get annoying after a while. i am looking for the best speakers i can get, money isnt much of an issue.

ill be going 6.5 or 6.75 up front and 5.25 in the rear. most of the speakers ive read about here and on crutchfield seem to be geared to the tune of high crisp notes. i listen to mostly rock and rap and i need something that will be loud, hard, but crisp. i know my amp will help out with this, but i want to get some opinions from people who listen to music like this and have speakers they would buy again. thanks.

 

when it comes to audio, it's all about personal preferance. i like to use epinions user reviews to get a general idea, but it's best to listen to them yourself rather than just going by other people's comments.

 

Yeah but you can hardly go wrong with Focal or MB Quart.

 

Ditto. Alpine Type R speakers are not too bad either.

 

yea, the alpine r's are nice and deep, but i dont rly think they cover very high well. iv got 4inch infinity ref's and a 10in p2 sub and i love my music quality. my speakers cover a pretty wide range.

 

I couldnt help but chime in.... I have run infinity references for years (8) and have had nothing but success with them. The reference is cheap and sounds better than the kappas or perfects if they are unamplified (for example if you are just upgrading speakers and not the head unit). My sister has alpine type R's on a small alpine amp in her 3rd gen and they sound rediculous to say the least. With a sub in mine, the infinitys are perfect. I also opted for the 5.25" upgrade in the rear and also used components so i have the tweeter custom mounted in the door which makes it sound that much better! MB Quarts are great as well but kinda pricey some places. If you can afford them and $$ is not an barrier... BOSTON PROS ALL THE WAY!!!! So sick!

 

Type S alpine!!! they hit mid/highs really good.

 

type s alpines. lol. i agree with dart. the reference and a sub are a perfect combo. of course thats all i got, but it works.

 

I am going to have to say the JL audio XR series. I just installed them in my 4runner and they are the best speakers I have EVER heard, and I have heard a lot of speakers. If you want to spend a little extra money, do that. You can't be disappointed.

im sure jl's are nice. lol. personally never heard them in a vehicle environment. good luck with those though. tell me how they work out. im lookin to put in some boxed speakers as soon as i get the money and would like to know what sounds the best for the best price.

 

the blaupunkts i have in mine sound wonderful, and very crisp to the point of making your ears bleed if you dont tune them down with the amp/HU.

and they were cheep. i have the 5.25s up front, because i didnt want to modify the front so much, and then i put 6.5s in the rear, they fit perfectly with a small spacer. for the two sets of component speakers, i paid 110

 

my truck came with some bostons pushed by a little amp and a bazooka woofer. the woofer isnt too great, but the mids and highs are awesome through the bostons. it still sounds great and theyve been covered in mud and kicked a few times

 

Try to find a store that carries them so you can hear firsthand how they sound compared to other speakers. Take in your own material and make sure they play it loud.

 

i love going into real audio stores and having them blast stuff on speakers i could never afford. sound advice had a set of alpines x's and some jbls and they were running full power with me standing inside this little plexiglasses room. i seriously couldnt take it, and i like loud noises. lol. theres some insane stuff out there. ever heard 2 17' kenwood subs makin a train noise? it hurts so good

 

I wish I could have heard the Alpine Type-X's compared to the JL Audio XR's that I bought. I bet it would have been really close.

 

ya never know. theres some way insane subs out there though. ya hear about people hittin like 170 db in comps and stuff. like holy crap. lol.

very nice. hope they continue to sound good. what do they cover best? are they good bass speakers or do they cover the highs? or are they good all around? lol, or should i just ask what are u listening to again?

 

i would say mine are good all around but i think i need a bigger amp
