I've pulled my pheonix gold M50 from my wrecked jetta (oops) and wil be installing it in the rig in my sig later this week. I'm wondering what the best way to anchor it so it doesn't move around would be?

My old setup (the jetta) just used some reasonably sized self-tapping sheetmetal screws into the seat back (trunk area)... can I do the same thing into the floor of the 4runner? (through the carpet, of course) Should I find where the pierced the floor and spray them with undercoating?

As for the speaker question, I've taken the factory HU out and replaced it with my trusty kenwood excellon (KDC-X617)... and I've got sound. but I've got no sound from the door tweeters? Are they seperated somehow? could they just be blown or something? I haven't torn the doors apart to check them out with a 9V battery yet.

Well, I said screw it and put it in w\o screws. it doesn't move around much. though fiddling with it so that the wiring doesn't hit all the goodies for the power seat was a bit fun. I forgot how loud 1 JL 12W0 was!

 

I put mine there, and routed all the wiring low and under carpet, no clearance problems at all, I used screws into the floor in two places, you could even try poking holes in the carpet and just zip tying the amp to the carpet

 

my amp is under the seat and its not screwed in place and it dont move

 

yea, in my pickup i just set my amp behind the seat for a while, but eventually i mounted it up on the back cab wall on a board just to b safe. i dont think a little slidin around or anything is gonna screw up anything, but u nail the brakes or something then ya never know.

 

OOh. ziptying it to the carpet. I hadn't thought of that, very clever.

I already drilled one hole for the amplifier ground, but seeing as the bolts for the seat go through the body as well, I don't see it as a big deal.

 

From what i remember the speaker wires split in the door to go to the tweeter and mid. So, you would have to check the connections in the door.

It is best if you mount the amp to something. You may not think it is moving but any extra vibration from not being mouted could decrease the life of the amp. Just check for brake or fuel lines and screw it down. Then throw some unercoating or rust proofing paint on them for insurance.

 

I've just screwed it to the carpet with a course thread screw many times. Drywall screws with well and will bind in the carpet quite well. If someone wanted to rip it out you could but it won't bounce or slide around. If it moved even a little and you hit a big bump, or go off roading much, it can bounce up and the wiring terminals can touch metal. That would be bad. Better safe than sorry.

 

I'll check the clearence underneath the body at some point. if someone wants to rip it out, they'd kinda have to take the seat out too, even as it stands.

 

I've got an amp I'm wiring up as we speak to be mounted under my driver's seat. I've just finished running all the wires for both front and rear door speakers (what a pain that was) and will be mounting the amp soon.

I plan on screwing mine to the floor. With the size of my amp, it will fit perfectly under the seat, however, it does not sit flat due to the contours of the floor. One corner of the amp is 1" higher than the floor. Therefore, I've bought some large washers to use as spacers for that one side when I screw the whole thing down. Ghetto I'm sure, but only way I could think to do it.

 

well, lemme tell ya, in my reg cab pickup it was way easy to mount, cause i just screwed a board into the back wall of teh cab and screwed the amp onto that. fits perfect behind my drivers seat, and the sub went behind the passengers seat. i love it. every time a new person gets into my truck i pause the music and wait till they r settled, then crank it and let it loose. iv gotten a few screamers. -_^ gotta have fun somehow. lol

you could also try using some hole straping and bolt it to the seat anchors.

 

So is this an amp for Subs in the rear or an additional one for the mids and tweets. I mounted mine to the back of the rear ds back seat..my subs and box have actually knocked it off from wheelin' and bouncin' around----Under the seat is a great idea, I think I'll move mine now!

 

Yeah, it's just for the sub. Running Bridged mono (100x1) into 4 ohms. Plenty punchy for me. Most of my music is metal or techno/industrial so big boomy bas s is not something I'm after. there's another adjustment on the M50 for 'bass' and not 'gain' that just makes it stupidly boomy. turn it most of the way down and it tightens up the bass quite a bit.

 

Well as for the tweeters... They should be run directly from the mids in the bottom of the door. If they arent working, I would try the obvious first and follow the wire from the tweeter and see if its broken or disconnected. Also, with these upgrades your making I would assume you have replaced your stock speakers, what brand are they and where is the crossover mounted?

 

I haven't fiddled with the speakers in the doors at all. I might do it later, but for now I already owned the sub/amp combo, so it was a cinch to put in. I might take the doors apart this weekend and check out the wiring.

it's possible the previous owner did upgraded speakers and changed something around that i'm not aware of.
