Thumbs down Stupid generic brand tailgate shocks

Bought some no-name brand tailgate shocks at Canadian Tire.

Turns out they do NOT support the tailgate AT ALL!

So I have to fork over extra $$ for OEM parts.

Why do they bother making those if they don't remotely fit the bill????

And yes, the tailgate is HEA-VY!!!

Can't say I'm all that surprised that Crappy Tire stuff failed to meet (let alone exceed) expectations. You should try getting struts from these guys http://www.strutwise.com/index.php (they're in Canada too!)

Make sure those aren't toast too.

Hugo, call or email Frank over at Strutwise, I guarantee it's alot cheaper than $120 to have them rebuilt.......and the result will be alot better than anything you get out of the junkyard!

I just emailed Frank and once he get's back with a firm price, I'm sending mine over there for rebuilding.

He just emailed me back and I guess the price is $45 (CDN) per strut + S&H each way.
He did say they'd be stronger than new and all the Toyota dealers are sending theirs to him too!

120$ locally is the same thing, plus no downtime. He didn't reply fast enough, so I bought them at lunch anyway.

I also scored the whole rear window motor assembly : 93$

Awesome.

Where a good place to buy them for a resonable price? I saw some on ebay but they were kind of expensive for a brand I never heard of.

Are these used struts or new?
If they aren't new, then I'm not so sure about your statement above.

'Course they're used. If they turn out to be defective, I'll just return them, no biggie.

Keep in mind, although I plan to keep the truck a long time, I'm NOT restoring it.

I'll change my plugs, clean the engine with Seafoam, change the oil, and keep every other expenses at the minimum.
