Oil Pressure Gauge Question?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...k/DSC00209.jpg

this is the hole for the oil sending unit...correct??
whats the job of the sending unit? is it just to show the gauge on the stock cluster?

could i put a manual gauge there instead of the sending unit?

and if i can, wat size is that hole?

On my 86 it just triggered an idiot light. I pulled the bulb, bought the adapter for my pressure guage and put it in... On some vehicles you might need to buy a T so u can leave the stock sender there too

The size is 1/8" BSP. (British Standard Pipe Thread). Seems like a lot of aftermarket senders are 1/8" NPT. If you need an adapter, McMaster Carr has them for $4.00.

www.mcmaster.com

part number is 4860K141

The hole in the block is a metric thread. The fitting with most oil pressure guages wont fit. I ordered the metric adapter from Summit. But Im sure someone whose knows places could use some fittings and such to get it to work... The part number above would work fine. Has anyone used the above part with sucess?

My mistake..I was just saying the standard NPT fitting that comes with most guages wont work. I bought a "Metric Kit" and it included the right fitting. Thanks for correcting me!
