Do i really need regear?

I have an '89 p'up 22RE 5spd. Stock gears,31x10.50x15 BFG AT. It is a little sluggish of the line but OK other times. May or may not put 33's on it. I am too lazy to do a search.

i guess thats cuz you have the 3.0, my 5vzfe is pushing 33s on 4.10's perfectly fine. but with a 22re sluggish at 31s, id for sure regear to go to 33s.

could be cuz i have a 91 3vze with 200k, and you have a 2000 5vzfe with prolly not even half...miles and years make thier mark...its not horrible...but i find it to be a bit sluggish

I find the comment quite ironic in light of the signature.

I have 4.88s and a 22re in my runner... I can smoke both my 33's (locked up rear
) on concrete dumpin the clutch. Black top a little different story. MUCH more traction lol. But I'm probably gonna regear to 5.29s here before too long if I don't go SAS. That and a 4.7:1 xcase!

its ironic that this thread came up today, i was just about to ask after my friend said he could sell me some 33x12.5s that he had that didnt use. to the point i know i need to regear, but how bad would it be on my x-cab 22re 5speed with 4.10s?

I just regeared my rig going from 31s to 32s I noticed quite a difference in power. And that's with the 3.0. The 4.88 gearing from my stock 4.30 made a huge difference. Had I known I was going to regear anyways I would have gone with 33s. It's the biggest power boost you can get for your money. I had Randy's do it and it ran just under 2k for the gears and a TrueTrack in the rear. That was with me taking the difs out and taking them to their shop.

I'm running 35's with my 3.0 and 4.10's. It actually does pretty good, a friend with a 22r and 4.88's is quicker off the start but can only maintain 70mph while I can easily maintain 80 if I want. Only problem is very steep hills or if I tow anything, I have to drop it in 4th.

hehe my 4runner is 22re + 5.71:1s + 35s + lockrites = chirp chirp all over the place. off the line its quite a bit faster than my truck. the truck is newer and has 32s, stock gears, autotragic transmission, behind a bolt-on-everything 3vze... you get the picture. its so slow and loud its embarrassing. i have to make it roar just to accelerate as fast as everyone else and the headers and exhaust make it sound like im trying to win a drag race competition. in fact just today i was beat off a stop light by a dodge that was towing a 20' trailer. its a 3.0 alright
