Big Bear, CA Area March 11-??

Me and my girlfriend are pondering several options on what to do over spring break. I don't feel comfortable going to San Felipe and Rocky Point is a mess for the next 2-3 weeks. I've been researching the Big Bear area as a possible stop in our road trip for camping and wheeling.

Just curious about what's up there and if there's any other decent trails aside from John Bull and Holcomb. If anyone has been up there recently, is there snow on the ground at higher elevations. Anyone down to roll up there this weekend?

Miguelitro - could you make a thread about Baja so I can ask some questions of you. I might be interested in going over spring break.

Sorry to steal the thread.

Big Bear is awesome. Search for lots of threads.

If your looking for snow I think you will be disappointed, especially with it as warm as it has been. You'll find it on the north facing slopes but overall it is pretty disappointing. With that said there are LOTS of trails to run depending on your/your truck's ablity. I don't think you will disappointed, I'm in BB at least twice a month and NEVER have a bad time!!!!!

Here is a link to a few cameras in the Big Bear area:

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like this place will be fun.

I've searched here, several Jeep sites and TTORA. Just wanted to see if there was anything I may have overlooked.

No way. I've made the mistake twice of going to Mexico during large events that I didn't know about. Once in Rosarito for the cycling thing to Ensenada and then to Rocky Point during white trash/bike week. No hotel rooms, rowdy crowds, asshole drivers and a generally unsafe atmosphere... San Felipe does look amazing, though.

I'm sure a Baja race event would be fun, but the trouble that surrounds events like this is a big turnoff for me. Stay safe.

^ surprised to hear that rocky point gets that bad. I think you are talking about the rocky point otherwise known as puerto penasco south of arizon an hour or so. My girlfriends aunt and uncle have a house there. It seems really laid back as far as I can tell other than the police who drive around with their lights going at all times.

One more question. I have an e-locker, 33's with the Tundra/LandCruiser suspension and nothing else (aside from acceptable driving skill); which trails would you guys recommend for such a lightly modded vehicle?

I ran into Bike Week there the first time I went, and it almost turned me off of Rocky Point completely. All of the main parts of town (port area, National Ave) were jam packed with bikes and bumbling drunks. It was chaos.

I've been back there tons since then and it's always chill and tons of fun. But I just couldn't believe how insane it was during that event. Ridiculous...

Gold Mountain is your best bet...

It will have snow on the North side descent.

Holcomb and John Bull especially WILL put dents in the Tundra sheet metal.

I might be avail for a Sunday run on Gold Mountain.
