Okay just bought 2007 FJ. Installing a 1.5 lift at the dealership, unsure of the brand. I bought this cruiser for my son for his 16th. Now i want to put the MOTO METAL 951 its the black wheel with some metal on it, and some really aggressive off tires. Are these wheels gonna work? Whats the biggest size tire i can put on after the 1.5 lift and not have any scrubbing? Lastly, any suggestions on the tire brand ? Peace and thanks so much in advance !!!

I don't wanna venture a geuss on the biggest, but I can tell ya what look to me like some "aggressive" tires. Search google, or what not, for Pitbull Tires, Maxxis, Super Swampers, or BFG rock krawlers. If it's anything like most Toyota 4x4s 33's should squeeze in there nicely.

 

Are you concerned about esthetics, grip off road, or tread life? Thos will play into which tire. If looks or off road grip is more the thing, then listen to MudHippy. Otherwise many have had good luck with the duelers. As far as the biggest tire size, this is new territory for all of us right now. I would say you would be safe with 33" but you may still have some inside ruibbing on your well. 285's wouldn't be bad as they tend to be more narrow and you could probably even go one size up from that.

I do have a question for you. Do you have the ability to adopt a 30 year old son?

I wish someone would buy me a new anything....let alone an FJ, with a lift, new wheels and big Aggressive tires.... ESPECIALY for my 16th...

 

and call me a jerk, but are you sure you should be questioning other ppls parenting styles...and what if he did earn it...

 

and for you tony go and pictures of the new fj's and you'll get a good idea of what some good ones look like, usually you can read what model they are, and you'll know whether they look cool before you get them..

BFG Krawlers do not come in any size that can possibly be put on an FJ with 1.5" of lift. FJs have a 17" rim, and the only krawler with that size is a 37.

I recomend the pitbulls or the maxxis, but the SSwampers will ride like crap, they are a great tire, but unless your son sees a ton of mud and rocks offroad, they are loud as hell and not all that fun.

Who cares if he buys his son an FJ.
He may make a million dollars a year, so $30K is a tax writeoff, it does not matter.

If you are going to go with a 33" tire which is a 285x70x17, you need to trim the body mounts if you run a mud tire.
If an AT tire and the offset is the same as the factory wheel, you can get away with it.

I have a 3" lift on mine with aggressive muds, but sized stock, and I think the stock size looks fine, even with a lift.
Many run the stock size with the 3" lift.

 

I dont know about tire size. But take a picture of your sons face when he sees this FJ. I know that I would be smiling for weeks straight. Glad to see someone getting an AWESOME birthday present. Good luck with your search

 

honestly, some bfg mud terrain should be great.

really depends on what it is going to be driven on. if its road mostly with some offroad, an at tire will be best

 

toyotanation.com will have a crowd with more info on this...they do have a motometal that will fit, and 33's toyo m/ts would be nice

 

for function actully a 265/70/70 mud tire...stock size but he will prlly drive over stuff, 33 might rip something off

 

dont forget to get a matching spare...o i would do a 3inch lift if i was you...more tire options to squeeze under there...if not 1.5 is fine, had a 1.5 on my 02 taco

 

I never questioned parenting, guys. I questioned whether or not he would be my parent?

But, we need to know if this is strictly a toy for play or is this going to be a daily driver he will need for getting to work and school or whatever.

 

jsut be sure to get the correct off set on the wheel when you buy it .
personally , for the price and decent tread id be more apt to go with the coopper sst's. i paid a mint for my toyo m/t's and they are a great tire , not loud but they are a stiff tire, 10 ply side walls. not the best for deep snow though. the dont form to the snow and ice well enough.
you may have problems finding the sst thoguh too, i heard they were discontinued , but my buddy at work can stilk get them.
