4.0L swap?

My 97 Limited have 145K miles on the clock. It run fine, make decent power, but I want more. Just wondering if anyone have sucessfully swaped a 4.0L into the 3rd gen? Are they bolt on to the stock tranny? Thanks in advance.

Just to let you know that engine is around 10K to buy one. Are you already Supercharged, fuel modded and tuned?? 300 rwhp is attainable with the 3.4 and the right set up. I have a grand in engine mods to my 4.0 and only put down 225 rwhp.

It's a really tall engine anyways. You'd need a 2-3" body lift. It's been done into a 1990 pickup. I'll find the link.

EDIT: here you go.

Yeah, I searched and saw that. But I thought may be with the 3rd gen we can just slap on the 4.0 and go.

It's never that easy. I have been researching the 1uz swap for my 96. I am a little uncertain about it because I have not seen that anyone has done it on a 3rd gen. Alot of people theorize that it is possible but nobody that I have been able to find has actually done it.

From what I understand you would bare minimum need the engine, ECU, wiring, and either the donor auto tranny with another output shaft or a new $900 bellhousing for the 3.4l auto tranny. I have sourced the engine itself locally for anywhere from $350 - $800, everything else, I haven't gotten that serious yet.
