3.0 = most reliable engine ever?????

I know what you guys are thinking, Im crazy. I have 288,000 miles on my 92 4runner and still get around 17 mpg, and its never left me stranded. My brother has a 93 4runner with 265,000 miles and it seems like I see more 2nd generation 4runners than any other vehichle driving around from the early 90's. And yes I know about the head gasket problems, I must have just got lucky that my rig still runs strong(as strong as the vze will run.). She does leak alot of oil though.

It's quite a reliable engine from that standpoint, lasting longer than most domestic vehicles, but from what I understand, the 18R, 20R, 22R and 22R-E blow it out of the water.

I like my 3vze but I think you are in the minority with 265k and still getting 17 mpg with no headgasket problems. I've owned 3 3vze's and two 22re's and the 22re's all had way more miles, better gas mileage and required considerably less maintenance. I'm on my third 3vze right now in a 95 4runner that I love, It's got 157k miles and I just replaced the headgaskets, t-belt, water pump and a bunch of other little stuff. Of course it was leaking at #6 and it wasn't covered under the recall so I had to foot the bill but for a 3vze it's the best one I've ever owned. Are you getting 17mpg around town? From what I understand the dealer sticker was 14mpg city and 16 mpg highway. What's your secret?

I have and 3.0 and so far so good, average around 17mpg with mixed driving bout 50/50. I have a 92' pick up. I have gotten about 18.5 on the highway. I have the window sticker and for the pick up it says 15 city and 18 highway. By the way the 17mpg i got i was pretty light on the peddle.

Right now I seem to be averaging about 14mpg with 80/20 so mostly around town. On an all highway trip i can get 18 maybe 19 if I'm lucky it's a 3.0 auto with 31's. I've got 157k miles and I'll be happy if it breaks 200k with no problems till then

I just rolled past 200,000 but mine hates me; every time I fix something, something else breaks. Mostly little stuff; I guess it just likes attention.

I have a 92 3.0. 80% of my driving is highway(I live in Texas). 215/75r/15's on stock wheels. I get 16-18mpg I guess.

Like I said I ust replaced the HG, water pump t-belt, t-stat, plugs, wires cap, rotor, valve seals, head bolts, steering rod recall, and it still needs two lower balloints, a cv axle and wheel bearings. I'm hoping at least the engine's good for a while...

I say give em the pure synthetic, and they all run a lifetime. If my 3vze don't last till I die, I wouldn't hesitate starting over with a new one. I should add, I run the sucker HARD. No easy miles, since I've owned it. I'll ashamedly admit to some serious engine torture "experiments". What I learn from 3vze so far, says it'll take what I dish out. And break what stands in its' way between my 35's.

For the record, I manage 17mpg with 75% city 25% highway driving while taching out every gear. The 3.0 is paying for it, but I look at it as paving the way for my 4.0L lexus v8.

383,000(km) on my 3vze the engine has considerably out lived the suspension.

probably cause 300,000 of them are off road in northern british columbia

it still runs so strong i just can't imagine it failing
